May 2014 marks four years since legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio succumbed to stomach cancer, and to pay tribute to his legacy some of the biggest names in Rock and Metal have come together to record songs from all aspects of Dio’s career in a tribute album called ‘This Is Your Life’.
The album contains thirteen tracks, a number of which are previously unreleased, encompassing his work with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell as well as his own eponymously named band, Dio.
Contributors include Metallica, The Scorpions, Anthrax, Rob Halford Vinny Appice, Glenn Hughes and Corey Taylor and a unique collaboration between Motörhead and Saxon’s Biff Byford.
‘This Is Your Life’, named after a song from Dio’s 1996 album, ‘Angry Machines’ will be available from Rhino Records from Tuesday 1st April on both physical formats and via download, and a portion of the proceeds from sales will benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Should Cancer Fund which was set up by Ronnie’s widow, Wendy Dio.
The fund was set up in the singer’s memory to “support cancer prevention research, raise awareness and educate the public with the focus that early detection and prevention is of vital importance.”
