Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis reunite LA Guns and release new album in 2017

Frontiers Music Srl is delighted to welcome the reunion of Tracii Guns And Phil Lewis as L.A. GUNS to the label for the release of a brand new album set for release in the summer of 2017.

After a nearly 15 year break, Philip Lewis and Tracii Guns are back together for another chapter in their partnership that began in 1986, four years after Tracii formed L.A. Guns in 1982.

Their writing partnership spawned classic L.A. GUNS songs such as “Sex Action”, “Never Enough”, “Electric Gypsy”, “The Ballad Of Jayne”, and countless more in an impressive catalog of fan favorites. The last time Lewis and Guns joined forces was back in 2000 with legendary producer Andy Johns for the making of what would become “Waking The Dead” – an album that went on to receive tremendous critical acclaim and proved that their musical partnership was every bit as strong as the early days with all-killer-no-filler songs including “Don’t Look At Me That Way”, “Hellraisers Ball”, and “The Ballad”.

“I think we owe it to our fans who have stuck with us during the many ups and downs of the band’s long and checkered career,” says Lewis. “Tracii and I have written the songs to the soundtrack of many people’s lives, and I think it’s definitely worth investigating to see if the magic is still there.”

As for Guns, he’s been compiling song ideas over the last year and promises this one will be one of the band’s heaviest records, simply stating, “It’s good to be home.”

The band has already confirmed a bunch of UK shows in early 2017 and two shows at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, CA with more surprises to be announced soon!

Seven – ‘Fight’ official music video

“Fight”, is taken from SEVEN’s new album Shattered, which is released today (September 23rd), by UK label Escape Music Ltd. “Fight” was co-written with well known songwriter Jeff Paris (Mr. Big, Vixen, Y&T, Paul Stanley).

The roots of SEVEN can be traced back to the late ’80s/early ’90s in South Africa, of all places. At the time, Keith McFarlane and the brothers Simon and John LeFevre were in a band called FACE TO FACE, while Mick Devine was drummer in another band, called UC27. After releasing several singles and one album in a period of 18 months, FACE TO FACE split and the brothers LeFevre returned to the U.K. After a few months, they decided to reform the band and Mick was asked to join them in the U.K. as their drummer. It wasn’t before long that the brothers discovered that Mick was actually a better singer than drummer, and so Mick became the band’s lead vocalist. A couple of years later, they were joined by Pat Davey on bass and Austin Lane on drums and the band name was changed to SEVEN.

The AOR scene in the late eighties was a thriving hive of activity. At the turn of the new decade, the likes of Mitch Malloy, Paul Laine, FIREHOUSE, TYKETTO and TALISMAN were all signed up and ready to make an impact on the genre. Everybody wanted an AOR band, and Polydor Records was no exception. Having been fairly successful in the U.K with the likes of MAGNUM and LITTLE ANGELS, the label had set their sights on SEVEN, which at the time was a relatively unknown act from Bournemouth.

SEVEN toured extensively supporting an eclectic variety of acts that included the likes of Jason Donovan, Richard Marx, THE MONKEES and BROTHER BEYOND. It’s a time period that Mick Devine is keen to reminisce about. “Even though they were out and out pop gigs, we loved the crowds and the noise,” he says. “We went from pubs to opening to 3000 screaming fans in Southampton. It is a very addictive adrenaline rush. We got to play all the top venues, which were fantastic — including Wembley Arena, the NEC, BIC, SEC and even the Royal Albert Hall. The Richard Marx tour was definitely the best for us with a more grown up audience we were able to rock it up and truly be ourselves. It went down really well!”

With John Parr as producer, they recorded two very strong singles in the shape of “Inside Love” and “Man With A Vision”, both of which achieved moderate success in the U.K.

In 2014, the original bass player Pat Davey was working alongside Robert Hart on an Escape Music album when the name SEVEN cropped up in the conversation. It would seem that Khalil Turk was a big fan, as Devine explains. “Yeah, back in the day, Khalil had really loved the band and he got in touch to see if we would be interested in finally releasing an album,” he says. Without too much convincing, the project was born.

The production talents of Lars Chriss (the LION’S SHARE guitarist whose repertoire includes albums with Steve Overland, Chris Ousey, LUGNET, NIVA and RADIOACTIVE) were enlisted to produce the band’s debut album, called “7”, which was released to critical acclaim and was held up as one of the “albums of the year” on many lists.

Following the success of the first album, a passion was rekindled within Devine and McFarlane, who began work on new material, and along with the writing talents of Lars Chriss, Fredrik Bergh (BLOODBOUND, ROB MORATTI, STREET TALK), Andy Loos (LION’S SHARE, GLORY, CHRIS OUSEY), Kay Backlund (LION’S SHARE, NIVA) and Jeff Paris (MR. BIG, Y&T, VIXEN, RADIOACTIVE), that passion was given focus and a place to come to life. What they discovered was a well of untapped creativity that had been hidden for far too long and the songs poured out.

SEVEN’s “Shattered” is a collection of wonderfully catchy songs that rely on clean and memorable melodies that allow Devine’s distinctive voice to shine through. It was Devine who took the lead in writing the lyrics on this album, matching the intensity and feel of the music to deliver a modern melodic rock album with influences ranging from hints of FOREIGNER in “A Better Life” and “Broken Dream”, JOURNEY in “High Hopes” and even traces of MAGNUM in “Light Of 1000 Eyes” and “Last Illusion”. The lyrical themes are drawn from a depth of life experience and observations and are heartfelt and real. The production talents of Chriss and the lineup of truly great musicians, deliver an album of depth and variation which ranges from driving guitar-led tracks with memorable riffs to melodic anthems, all backed by stunning keys, bass and standout solos. It is an album that is a worthy follow-up to the critically acclaimed “7”.

Hevidence release debut album ‘Nobody’s Fault’ in December

Frontiers Music Srl announces the release of Hevidence’s debut album, “Nobody’s Fault” on December 2, 2016.

Hevidence is the brainchild of Italian guitar player Diego Reali, founding member of Italian Prog Metal masters DGM. After he left the band in 2006, he started dabbling in some different musical styles, but his heart called for him to get back to metal! Thus Hevidence were born and Diego joined up with DGM bass player Andrea Arcangeli, singer Corrado Quoiani and drummer Emiliano Bonini.

“This band is highly inspired by the classic hard and heavy sounds from the ’70s and ’80s, that’s why we worked hard to make this album sound the most vintage that was possible,” tells Diego. “We are convinced that a huge dose of improvisation during the recording sessions is needed for the success of an original product. Everyone of us has many different musical influences and they came out in a very spontaneous way within the song writing process, we just believe in the word “ROCK”!!!”

Hevidence offer a mature and personal vision of hard rock and metal with a style reminiscent of the classic Official Yngwie Malmsteen albums mixed with power metal and melodic hard rock influences (think early Europe).

An EPK where you can learn more about the band and hear song samples is here:https://youtu.be/TDzEVFY27Yc

The band will be launching the album with a special “Release Party” show in Roma at the JAILBREAK LiveClub on December 1st. For more info:http://www.jailbreakliveclub.it/

Dario Mollo’s Crossbones unleash ‘Rock The Cradle’ in December

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of Dario Mollo’s CROSSBONES new album, “Rock the Cradle” on December 2nd.

Best known for his partnerships in the The Cage with Tony Martin (ex-Black Sabbath) and Voodoo Hill with Glenn Hughes (Black Country Communion, Deep Purple, California Breed), Italian guitarist Dario Mollo began his career in 1981 with the band CROSSBONES. With them, he released his first studio album in 1989, which was produced by Kit Woolven (Thin Lizzy Official, MAGNUM and UFO, among others) before getting involved in the production side of things himself.

For this new CROSSBONES album, the Italian axeman brought back original drummer, Ezio Secomandi with the line-up completed by his regular collaborator Dario Patti on bass and keyboards. The choice for the singer was Carl Sentance (Nazareth, Don Airey Band, Persian Risk, KROKUSonline), who came at the suggestion of Don Airey of Deep Purple, during a recent visit to Dario’s home.

“I think this record has a strong identity and character,” tells Dario. “It is a mature production and the songs range on many styles of hard rock and classic heavy metal, but every song has a catchy chorus. I also think this album shows how much I liked working with Carl. He is easily one of the best singers I have ever worked with. I am certain our cooperation will not end with this cd!” concludes Dario. The quality of the material presented here is witness to that statement.

“Rock the Cradle” tracklisting:

1. Red

2. Take Me High

3. Navigation

4. Rock The Cradle

5. Gates Of Time

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the upcoming release of ETERNAL IDOL’s debut album, entitled “The Unrevealed Secret”, on December 2nd

Eternal Idol is a new band formed in early 2016 and that marks the start of a new musical adventure for Rhapsody Of Fire and Angra singer Fabio Lione, together with the experienced Italian guitar player Nick Savio (exHOLLOW HAZE Official Page) and a line-up completed by the young vocal rising star Giorgia Colleluori, Camillo Colleluori (both also from Hollow Haze) on drums and Andrea Buratto (Secret Sphere, Hell in the Club) on bass.

While all the musicians have solid pedigrees and musical history behind them, ETERNAL IDOL have a brand new and original sound which will certainly catch many fans by surprise. Fabio Lione says, “[a]fter all the experiences with bands such as KAMELOT, Rhapsody of Fire, Angra and many more, I think it is time to show the world a new side of myself with this amazing new band. Musically, ETERNAL IDOL offer an intriguing mix of classic metal, symphonic rock and a few progressive twists which is truly unique, thanks to the combination of female and male vocals.”

Fabio took care of most of the lyrics and vocal melodies, along with three gorgeous tracks he wrote, while Nick Savio worked hard on songwriting and arrangements. “The Unrevealed Secret” is the album where all our ideas came to the light,” says the axeman from Vicenza. “Heavy classic rock with symphonic elements and the magic atmosphere of two lead vocals, male and female, create a contrast between good and bad as the main subject, as it is possible to see on the impressive and mysterious cover artwork.”

The album was recorded in the summer of 2016, produced by Nick Savio and mixed by Simone Mularoni (DGM, Sunstorm) and promises to be one of the melodic metal releases of the year. Fans of Kamelot, Magnus Karlsson’s Free Fall, MasterPlan, and Avantasia should pay attention.

TERRAPLANE DEBUT ALBUM REISSUE CELEBRATED WITH RARE DOUBLE SINGLE RELEASE:
Hear No Evil Recordings/Cherry Red are celebrating their upcoming expanded edition reissue of Terraplane’s debut 1985 album Black And White with the release of a rare double digital single: I Survive / Gimme The Money (City Records Version) on June 9.
More widely known as inimitable British hard rock heroes Thunder, Danny Bowes (vocals), Luke Morley (guitar) and Harry James (drums) formed the more pop-orientated Terraplane in the early 80s, releasing their debut single ‘I Survive’ in 1983. Building up a loyal following in London, and with support from Kerrang! magazine, they eventually found major label recognition when they signed to Epic Records, releasing “Black And White”, their debut, in 1985.

‘I’m The One’ features none other than Jools Holland on organ, and ‘Couldn’t Handle The Tears’ has guest vocals from Ruby Turner. After 1987’s “Moving Target” LP, Terraplane split up, with its principle members forming the harder rocking Thunder, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thunder split in 2009, playing live only occasionally since then, but has recently decided to start work on a new album. The band will be on the bill with Aerosmith at the Calling Festival at Clapham Common on June 28.
Black And White: Expanded Edition is due for release June 16, remastered with eight bonus tracks and 16-page colour booklet including rare memorabilia and extensive liner notes by Malcolm Dome, and featuring interviews with Luke Morley and Danny Bowes.

The tune salutes the military and all who have served, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Red Circle Foundation that assists families of the US Special Operations Forces.
Before the formation of his own group Slaughter, he fronted a local band Xcursion before joining the Vinnie Vincent Invasion in 1987, with a huge hit song “Love Kills” that appeared on the Nightmare Before Elm Street 4 movie soundtrack in 1988. After that band disbanded in the late 1980s, two of its members, Dana Strum along with Mark, formed the group Slaughter.

Mark was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on the 4th of July, and now makes his home in Nashville. He has worked as a voice-over actor and composes music for television, movies and sports outlets, with credits including music compositions for Fox Sports, along with voice over ventures in productions like Batman Beyond, Bloodsport, and Animaniacs.

Now in 2014 Frйdйric Slama’ s AOR project is back with lucky number 13, with an impressive new album called L.A Connection, featuring a fantastic list of guests such as Tommy Denander, Bill Champlin (Chicago), Paul Sabu (Sabu, Only Child, Kidd Glove), Jeff Paris, Sherwood Ball (Jay Graydon), David Forbes (Boulevard), Rick Riso, Philip Bardowell (Places Of Power, Unruly Child), Bob Harris (Axe), Tamara Champlin & many others.
For this 13th album, AOR is flirting with heavier territories with songs reminiscent of Foreigner, Giant, Journey & Toto. The first class production by Frйdйric Slama & Tommy Denander will leave you breathless and the legendary singers of L.A Connection will surely take Melodic Rock to new heights. So it’s time for the “L.A Connection”.
This is AOR’s best outing to date and worthy of your attention, like a great red wine AOR just improves as each year passes.”

NEW REVIEWS ONLINE:
New Reviews added to the site today – the LAST batch before the launch of the new MR website!
Online today are reviews for: California Breed, Neal Schon, Timo Tolkki, Seven, Diesel, SunStrike, Mother Road, Alien, Dynazty and Brother FiretribeCheck them out now.

Today’s reviews reflect a few things. First – there’s a lot of great releases around. Plenty to pick and choose from for all!
Secondly, with the development of the new MR website, I haven’t had much time to devote to reviews as is needed, so what I’m reviewing right now are the main titles around right now – and as far as those – they are mostly very consistent and of high quality. The ratings have been high all year – because of the quality with mainline releases and the fact I haven’t had time to get to the secondary releases which may not obtain such high praise and help average out the scores, but equally deserving of coverage.

Which leads to my final point – the increased consistency and quality of releases is leading the reviews to tend higher and if I keep going we’ll need a 110 rating soon enough.

So with today’s reviews, say goodbye to the old MR site and stand by for the new. The new design allows me a whole lot more flexibility to add reviews one at a time, instead of painfully working up a batch and HTML’ing them to add in one go. That means more reviews, less constraints over what titles and the length of reviews (long if I want, short if I want…) and a slight tweak to the ratings system.

I have grappled with this for months, but decided that to do anything completely different would throw 16 years of past reviews into disarray, so the % system will stay and I’ll continue to talk about the details within each release in as much detail as necessary, but at the same time, there is one additional rank being added within the current 0-100 system, plus I have tweaked the descriptions each color rank uses. On top of that, you can expect me to be tougher on scores and a general depreciation in overall marks (just slightly), as this will allow greater scope to point out truly outstanding releases, focus on the good records and allow room to grow once again.

80 is the new 90 🙂

I’m looking forward to getting the new site launched….I hope the new layout and system makes sense and is as popular as the reviews here have been over the years. Once the new site is launched I will begin the slow process of cataloguing all past years’ worth of reviews into one mega-searchable database at the new site!
Thanks for the support and awesome feedback over that time.

BRITISH MELODIC ROCKERS SERPENTINE RETURN:
Press Release: “We are delighted to announce that after twelve months in the proverbial wilderness, Serpentine are back!
After parting ways with our former singer Matt Black last year, and with our beloved bassist and founder member Gareth Vanstone bowing out in early 2014 due to health issues, it is with extreme pleasure that we welcome two new recruits to the band who represent the cream of the South Wales rock scene. Vocal powerhouse Adam Payne (ex-Tidal) was identified almost immediately upon Matt’s departure as the voice to represent the new era of Serpentine, and is joined by bassist Owen Crawford whose work on former band Triaxis’ ‘Rage & Retribution’ album is beyond impressive.
You may have gathered by now from our Facebook posts that work in the studio on our yet-to-be-titled third record, which is being produced and co-written by Gary Hughes (Ten), is well underway. The sessions so far have been great and we are more than confident that the songs we’ve chosen represent our best work to date. With that in mind, we are also very excited and honoured to have landed the services of Neil Kernon (Queensryche, FM, Judas Priest, Autograph) to mix the album this summer, which promises to have a harder and darker edge than previous releases.
More details will be available in a full press release, which will be out at the beginning of next week. In the meantime we hope that you will all join us in welcoming two class acts into Serpentine. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support while we’ve been away. Now we’re back, and you’re gonna know about it!!”

PAUL DEAN’S PRE-LOVERBOY BAND STREETHEART RELEASES 1993 LIVE REUNION ALBUM:
One Night One Take features Dean, Matt Frenette and Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve reuniting with Kenny Shields and Daryl Gutheil

New York, May 23, 2014–Long before they became full-time members of Loverboy, guitarist Paul Dean, bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve and drummer Matt Frenette were members of another legendary Canadian band, Streetheart. Long gathering dust in Dean’s archives, One Night One Take finally sees the light of day, a live recording made at Winnipeg’s Rolling Stone Cabaret on Friday, August 13, 1993, part of a week-long stint marking the band’s reunion after Dean was “dumped” 15 years before.

One Night, One Take shows off a band where chops, musicianship and communication resulted in an almost 14-minute-long cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Under My Thumb” and a fiery version of Them’s Bert Berns-penned classic, “Here Comes the Night,” both spotlighting Dean’s intense guitar-playing. Sinnaeve’s virtuoso bass and Frenette’s frenetic drumming are showcased on one of the previously unreleased tracks, “Mr. Tall”, while the other new track, “Losin’ Streak”, features vocalist Kenny Shields and keyboardist/vocalist Daryl Gutheil. Also, check out Dean’s electric violin solo on “Move On Over,” where Shields playfully dubs him Paul “Charlie Daniels” Dean, or his guitar pyrotechnics in “Can You Feel It” for further proof of Streetheart’s legendary jamming prowess. “At rehearsal, I said to myself, how the heck am I gonna pull that off – did I actually play that?” laughs Dean today. Their musical touchstones included such powerhouse outfits as Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Cream (catch the snippet of “Sunshine of Your Love” in the midst of the almost 10-minute-long “Mr. Tall”). The CD is available now at Streetheart gigs as well as online, and can be downloaded worldwide from digital retailers like iTunes and Amazon, as well as streaming services such as Rdio, Beats Music and Spotify.

Based in Edmonton at the time, longtime musical collaborators Dean and Frenette were playing in a local cover band, Great Canadian River Race, when they heard about a group from Saskatchewan playing a bar in town. Dean says he and Frenette were impressed, to say the least. Soon after, they found themselves in Regina with Shields and Gutheil, and a year later they recorded their only album, Meanwhile Back in Paris. Dean was replaced in the group shortly thereafter, and eventually joined up with vocalist Mike Reno to form Loverboy, along with bassist Jim Clench (soon to be replaced by the late Scott Smith) and keyboardist Doug Johnson, with Frenette coming aboard soon afterward. “Spider,” who went on to play with Tom Cochrane’s Red Rider, rejoined his ex-Streetheart mates in 2001, after the tragic death of Smith.
Streetheart went on to receive a Juno Award, two Ampex Golden Reel Awards and were voted the most popular Canadian act at the People’s Choice Awards. During the course of their career, they toured with fellow Canucks Chilliwack, Rush, Aldo Nova and April Wine, as well as Sammy Hagar, Styx, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult and AC/DC.

“I thought we were a great band,” says Dean. “We definitely had dynamics and communication on stage, and it took a live album to showcase that. Yeah, I was pretty distraught when I got kicked out – that was a heavy period in my life, but I got over it. I survived. And now I think I can speak for Matt and Spider – it wouldn’t take much convincing for us to do a tour one day. We’re totally appreciative of all our Streetheart and Loverboy fans. Personally, it blows me away that people are still behind us as much as they are, and I’m excited we can finally offer them something like this in return.”

R.I.P. BASS GREAT RANDY COVEN:
Rock bassist Randy Coven, who toured and recorded with artists including Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai, passed away on May 20th of undisclosed causes. He was 54.
Born in Great Neck, New York, Coven was introduced to music at a young age. His parents fostered his love of music by taking him to the Beatles concert at Shea Stadium when he was just five years old, and from there his dream was to make music. He started on drums but switched to bass after feeling restricted behind the drum set. According to his biography on the Phil Brodie Band website, Jeff Berlin lived around the corner and overheard him working on a Stanley Clarke song.

And from last week (forgive the late notice): Tweet from Lou Gramm “It is with a heavy heart that I post Foreigner’s original Bassist, Ed Gagliardi past away Saturday. Rest in Peace Ed.”

R.I.P. to two more another musical greats.

I’d also like to take a moment to mention the passing of a long time MR.com reader from Canada – Paul Enns. Paul was a huge supporter of this site and he attended both the first two MelodicRock Fest events, he was sadly too sick to attend last year and recent passed away from cancer. It’s never easy to hear news like this and we wish his family all the very best. R.I.P. Paul.

Echoes: Classic Rockers Remembered is a two-part, two week broadcast radio special featuring tributes to John Lennon, Ray Charles, Jerry Garcia, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Syd Barrett, Lou Reed, Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ronnie Montrose, Alvin Lee, Brad Delp, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Randy Rhoads, remembered by artists Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Roger Waters, Joe Cocker, and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead.

Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, for example, shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard his thoughts about the vital importance of Pink Floyd co-founder, the late Syd Barrett.
“Being a Syd Barrett fan seems to be, to me, a perfectly legitimate and reasonable way of spending your spare time… He was a very interesting man… He was the key that unlocked the door to Rock’n’Roll for me.”

THE WIZARDS OF WINTER LAUNCH TRIBUTE TRACK:
The Wizards of Winter commemorate Memorial Day by releasing “March of the Metal Soldiers”, honoring the US Military and aiding Wounded Warriors.
Prog-Metal band The Wizards of Winter have officially released their first song from their forthcoming new album that they have been working on with Trans-Siberian Orchestra founding member Tommy Farese. The song is called “March of the Metal Soldiers”. They are releasing this now in honor of Memorial Day and will be donating a portion of the proceeds from all sales of this track to the Wounded Warrior Project as their way of thanking all that have served . They have put together a short slide show so that you can preview the music here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=krBewQRb4yU. To purchase a copy, visit their website thewizardsofwinter.com
“March of the Metal Soldiers” is a reworking of the classic standard “March of the Toys”, reimagined by band leader Scott Kelly with screaming guitars, lush keyboards and a heavy new arrangement that shows off the band’s versatility.  Of special note is the song’s vocal interlude. The lyrics are the slogans of the four branches of the US Military slogans converted to and sung in Latin.
The full album is due for release in the Fall of 2014, with album artwork designed by legendary album cover artist Ioannis. A winter tour will follow with Trans-Siberian Orchestra founding members Tommy Farese and Tony Gaynor as their special guests.

Asia add new UK date

Asia Gravitas

The legendary British band ASIA will be performing in the UK to promote the new album Gravitas. The latest date to be announced the prestigious Shepherds Bush Empire on 2nd November.

Touring and playing live has always been of huge importance to ASIA throughout their career and 2014 sees them hitting the road for further dates throughout he UK later in the year.

For ASIA’s long-devoted fans, the band’s return to the concert stage cannot come soon enough. As drummer Carl Palmer says:“Performing on stage is where this band truly comes into its element. Seeing the fans reacting to our music is what makes it all worthwhile. It is the fuel that drives this train we call ASIA.”

The new album, Gravitas is produced and written by band members John Wetton and Geoff Downes. The album also introduces the world to the band’s new guitarist, Sam Coulson, who replaces Steve Howe in the studio and live line-up.

ASIA’s debut album exploded onto the music scene in April 1982 and was the best selling album in the world that year. Featuring Geoff Downes (keyboards), Steve Howe (guitar), Carl Palmer (drums) and John Wetton on lead vocal and bass, the group was the logical successor to their collective bands of the 70’s – Yes, ELP, King Crimson, UK and The Buggles. The original ASIA reformed in 2006 for the first time in 23 years.

“It always was a great live band, but this time the dragon has awoken with fresh energy, direction and purpose,” Wetton continues. “As with any new ASIA album, putting it all together presents something of a challenge,” adds Geoff Downes. “Everyone involved rose way above and beyond this challenge. There is a renewed energy when we step on stage now; we can feel it and I know the fans can feel it.”

ASIA is:

John Wetton – lead vocal and bass

Carl Palmer – drums

Geoff Downes – keyboards

Sam Coulson – guitars

Styx fans rejoice with the release of the band’s critically aclaimed album ‘Paradise Theater’ on limited numbered Hybrid SACD by Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity. Styx’s 10th album, the 1981 release, ‘Paradise Theater’ was the band’s fourth consecutive triple-platinum album. A resounding success, ‘Paradise Theater’ was their greatest commercial triumph and their only #1 album. Styx was a great group of talented musicians – Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, James Young, Chuck Panozzo and John Panozzo. The album included three Billboard Hot 100 hits, The Best of Times, Nothing Ever Goes As Plannedќ and Too Much Time on My Handsќ considered among Tommy Shaw’s finest singles ever. Another track, Rockin’ The Paradiseќ reached #8 on the Top Rock Track Chart.
The concept album is a fictional account of Chicago’s Paradise Theatre from its opening to closing, used as a metaphor for America’s changing times from the late 1970s into the 1980s.

AOR HEAVEN ANNOUNCE DEAD END HEROES AND ACACIA AVENUE FOR JUNE:
AOR Heaven have announced their 27 releases from Dead End Heroes and Acacia Avenue. Details as follows:

Dead End Heroes – Roadkill / Some bands are formed together through newspaper ads, others are the net result of a prolonged booze session at the local pub, yet the Dead End Heroes were formed by accident. A good accident! Whilst the initial discussions began around a solo album of Swiss drummer Daniel Voegeli (Me & The Rest), the project grew arms and legs and developed into an immense passion – a completely fully operational band that excelled at having fun sharing their common love of Hard Rock. After Voegeli had assembled his collection of instrumental songs he contacted exceptional Guitarist and Producer Rolf Munkes (Empire, Tony Martin, Majesty) to oversee the disc’s production. However, Munkes was so impressed by Voegeli’s drumming and initial song ideas that he encouraged him to develop a fully functioning band around the tunes and work towards completing an album. The first port of call was German vocalist and session musician Carsten Lizard Schulz (Evidence One, Domain, Lavalle) who took Voegeli’s instrumentals under his wing and gave them new life. Through his engaging lyrics and ear candy hooks they developed into real songs with Schulz’ trademark stamp alongside Voegeli’s bedrock base.
On Schulz’s recommendation, the next member to join the fold was Scottish bassist Paul Logue (Eden’s Curse, Doogie White, David Readman, Lavalle), who had worked with him on several productions. Logue at first was hesitant to belong to any group out with his main band but succumbed after completing the recording sessions at his studio in Scotland, such was the strength of the material. Last but by no means least, to add the missing Classic Rock ingredient to the recipe was Schulz’ long-time friend and world-class Hammond Organist Holger Seeger (Midnite Club, Iain Ashley Hersey). His Hammond gave the songs the final flavour they were missing whilst a classy seventies touch and vibe.
All five members were without doubt absolutely certain that this had become more than just a studio project and the Dead End Heroes were born. Sitting musically somewhere between late seventies and early eighties hard rock with a hint of Deep Purple, a pinch of Krokus and an extra serving of classic Michael Schenker, their addictive cocktail is simply good time old-fashioned Hard Rock that packs a punch. Sometimes … it just works!

Line-up: Carsten Lizard Schulz – vocals, Rolf Munkes – guitars, Daniel Voegeli – drums, Paul Logue – bass, Holger Seeger – keyboards.
Track list: 01. Roadkill, 02. Dead End Heroes, 03. Cry For The Moon, 04. Feed The Flames, 05. The Wind Howls Fire, 06. Stormfront, 07. Hands Off The Wheel, 08. And The Loser Is, 09. Technicolor Love, 10. The Fire’s Worth The Loneliness, 11. Gambler’s Crusade.
Sound clips in advance: Cry For The Moon / Roadkill / The Wind Howls Fire.

Acacia Avenue – Cold / The idea for Acacia Avenue began back in 2008. Founding member, Torben Enevoldsen (Fate, Fatal Force, Section A), spent most of that year writing new material. Some of this new material came to be very melodic hard rock/AOR, and the idea of doing a full album in this style quickly emerged. In order to spice things up however, Enevoldsen decided to ask a few good friends of his to participate, both as singers, but also as co-writers. The debut album featured Tony Mills (Ex-TNT, Shy), Geir Rцnning (Radioactive),Torben Lysholm (Pangea, Mysterell) and Lars Sдfsund (Work Of Art) on vocals. Torben did the bass, keyboards and guitars, as well as both lead and backing vocals on a few songs himself, and Thomas Heintzelmann (Decoy) did the drums. The self-entitled debut album was released on Lion Music in January 2010.
Enevoldsen continued doing various projects, but at the end of 2010, Torben was asked to join the Danish hard rock band Fate. He agreed and joined the band in January 2011. Although busy with Fate, Enevoldsen never stopped working on new material of his own. So the idea of doing another Acacia Avenue album was never far away. Torben grew up listening to bands like Boston, Journey, Toto and Survivor, so he thoroughly enjoyed writing in this very melodic and somewhat softer style.
New songs were written and the first singer to get involved was Rob Moratti (Ex-Saga, Final Frontier). Torben and Rob had met each other on MySpace, years before Rob joined Saga, and had discussed the possibility of working together. Acacia Avenue turned out to be the perfect vehicle to pursue this desire. Skid Row Gear Up For ‘United World Rebellion – Part 2’

Skid Row will be a long way from home throughout the summer. First, the band is teaming up with Black Star Riders for a brief tour of the west coast, which starts on May 8th in Tucson, Arizona. Once that concludes on May 16th, the band will play headlining shows across the U.S. and then head to Europe in June for various festivals, including the Download Festival in Donington, England on June 14th. Once the U.S. trek concludes in July, Skid Row will head to Kostrzyn, Poland, where they’ve been invited to headline one of the biggest festivals in Europe, the Woodstock Festival Poland on July 31st.

All of this touring is getting their loyal fans ready for the highly anticipated new seven song EP ‘United World Rebellion – Part 2’, set for release on August 5th via Megaforce Records.

After a hiatus that started in 1996, Skid Row returned to the big stage — literally — opening for KISS in 2000. Exhilarated to tour with the heroes who rallied them in the first place, the band was reinvigorated by being underdogs who needed to come out fighting to prove themselves.

“When we put the band back together, we needed to reintroduce Skid Row as relevant without relying too much on past success,” explains bassist Rachel Bolan. “We wrote songs and hit the road. We sunk our heart and soul into it, letting people know we weren’t doing it for lack of something better to do.”

2003’s ‘Thickskin’ and 2006’s ‘Revolutions Per Minute’ were battle plans for hundreds of live shows with new singer Johnny Solinger out front, every night being a hard fought battle to win new fans and convince the old ones. ‘United World Rebellion – Part 2’ is Skid Row coming out swinging. Rachel and guitarist Snake Sabo tapped again into the potent songwriting collaboration that built the band. Sabo says they were eagerly up to the challenge. “We seem to be at our best when we’re faced with adversity. It’s us against the world again — and by us I mean the band and the fans who stick with us and carry the Skid Row torch without fail.”

New plans came together in an Atlanta recording studio. But it’s a different time, a different industry, so they decided to record a series of EPs. “The idea really appealed to me,” says Bolan, “especially with the constantly changing musical climate. I like the idea of a steady flow of new music, as opposed to releasing a full-length album then riding it for the next two years.”

That guerrilla burst of recording a concise EP fostered a focused intensity that was liberating, says Snake. “The pressure seemed to be lifted. That immediately set me at ease and it became really exciting.”

Exciting and potent, prompting Solinger to exert the full range of his ability. “The third time in the studio as the voice of Skid Row was the proverbial charm, and the proof is in the tracks. ‘United World Rebellion – Part 2’ is the most meaningful work I’ve done with the band. It’s definitely the most I’ve been challenged, vocally.”

That sound is rambunctious exuberance. They got older, but Skid Row never really grew up. ‘United World Rebellion – Part 2’ is still the youth gone wild, their musical spark still burning gasoline.
