Roxx Gang Pay Tribute To Late Guitarist On Lost Demos Collection

Roxx Gang are set to release ‘Last Laugh (The Lost Roxx Gang Demos)’ on May 20th via FNA Records, with distribution through Cargo Records.

These recordings feature original Roxx Gang guitarist and co-founder Eric Carrell, who died in a mysterious accident in 1986. Eleven of the fifteen tracks on ‘Last Laugh (The Lost Roxx Gang Demos)’ were recorded from 1984 to 1986 when singer Kevin Steele and Carrell founded Roxx Gang, writing and recording these demos that include the original versions of classics like “Scratch My Back”, “No Easy Way Out” and “Too Cool For School”.

“These are Roxx Gang’s first demos, some of these are close to thirty years old and as a result the audio quality on some songs leaves something to be desired but the point is to pay tribute to my dear friend and co-founder of Roxx Gang, Eric Carrell,” said Steele. “He was taken from us much too soon and so few recordings exist of his playing that I felt this disc was necessary. This is not meant to be the new Roxx Gang album, it is a labor of love paying tribute to a great guitar player and a good friend.”

Among other highlights, the CD includes a cover of the Alice Cooper classic “I’m Eighteen” that was recorded live in the studio and the original song “Magic Carpet Ride”. Most of the songs on ‘Last Laugh (The Lost Roxx Gang Demos)’ were recorded at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida with Jim Morris (Savatage, Iced Earth, Warrant and Trans-Siberian Orchestra) engineering the sessions. The album’s cover artwork is a photo of Kevin Steele shot in Tampa in 1987 by Mick Rock, the legendary British photographer best known for his album covers and iconic shots of Queen, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy and the Stooges and The Ramones.

After recording these demos Roxx Gang exploded on the world music scene in 1988 with their classic demo-album ‘Love ‘Em And Leave ‘Em’ as a hybrid mixture of rock, blues and punk that virtually defied classification. ‘Love ‘Em And Leave ‘Em’ earned stellar reviews on both sides of the Atlantic and earned Roxx Gang a spot on the Top Ten Heavy Metal Albums Of The Year in Tower Records’ Pulse. In a short space of time the Gang did a series of showcase gigs, garnered a huge international following, and were signed to Virgin Records to be that label’s first hard rock band.

Their debut CD, ‘Things You’ve Never Done Before’, was released to great critical acclaim. Coverage in the international rock and music press was extensive. The band released two videos, “No Easy Way Out” directed by Nigel Dick (Guns N’ Roses, Oasis) and “Scratch My Back” directed by Ralph Ziman (Ozzy Osbourne, L.A. Guns), that received airplay on MTV. The band toured all over the world with ‘Things You’ve Never Done Before’ ging on to sell over 250,000 copies.

Always experimenting with many musical styles, Roxx Gang refused to paint themselves into a corner. They were unique in a watered down music scene. The intelligence behind their unbridled raw power, prolific songwriting and a mastery of the live performance made them, for a time, one of America’s greatest rock bands. The band is no longer together, but a recent resurgence of interest has lead to the release of last year’s box set ‘Boxx Of Roxx’ and now ‘Last Laugh (The Lost Roxx Gang Demos)’.

FNA Records will release a regular version, an autographed version, and a super fan pack version with a t-shirt featuring the popular Roxx Gang skull and cross bones logo. All three will be made available for purchase via the FNA web site at fnarecords.net and traditional retail outlets.

Sebastian Bach Debuts “All My Friends Are Dead” Video

Sebastian Bach has released a video for “All My Friends Are Dead”, from his recently released solo album ‘Give ‘Em Hell’.

On ‘Give ‘Em Hell’ Sebastian managed to involve in the writing and recording some very special friends and guest stars, including none other than Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver, Guns N’ Roses), and not one but two top class guitar players in John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie) and Steve Stevens (Billy Idol). Rounding up the line-up on the album are Devin Bronson on guitars and Bobby Jarzombek on drums.

Sebastian Bach will also star in the upcoming ABC summer series ‘Sing Your Face Off’, slated to debut on Saturday, May 31st.

‘Sing Your Face Off’ is a talent variety competition featuring celebrities who are transformed and trained to perform as a legendary musical icon. Over the course of the series, the five celebrities — Sebastian Bach/legendary rock star from the band Skid Row, Landry Fields/NBA’s Toronto Raptors, Jon Lovitz/comedian, actor, singer, China Anne McClain/Disney Channel’s ‘A.N.T. Farm’, and Lisa Rinna/’Days of Our Lives’ — will take on the identity of an iconic music performer. The celebrities could find themselves transformed into someone far older, younger or even someone of the opposite sex.

From the hours in the makeup chair to the days spent with choreographers and vocal coaches, each show will feature the complete transformation — not just physical — the celebrities will embody everything about the assigned icon — their walk, their talk, and their distinguishing mannerisms leading up to the live performance in front of the studio audience. Viewers will get the chance to see each of the celebrities portray multiple musical performers during the series — such as Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Pavarotti, Pitbull, Britney Spears, and Tina Turner to name a few.

Jack Russell’s Great White Experience Spinal Tap Moment

In a scene straight out of the classic cult film ‘This Is Spinal Tap’, Jack Russell’s Great White recently played a gig in Trenton, New Jersey, with disastrous results.

On April 19th Jack Russell’s Great White were slated to play a post game concert immediately after a Professional Indoor Football League duel between the Trenton Freedom and the Columbus Lions at the Sun National Bank Center. The evening was being billed as ’80s night, where fans were encouraged to dress up as their favorite ’80s pop or rock star in exchange for prizes.

Obviously no one told the thousand plus football fans in attendance that there would be a concert after the game — or else the promoters completely dropped the ball — as Great White played to what appears to be an optimistic estimate of 40 people. Even by club standards the attendance was low, but the Sun National Bank Center has a capacity of 8500! To make matters worse… the Great White show was free!

Despite the abysmal turn-out, Jack Russell appeared to be in fine form and obviously gave the extremely sparse crowd a show to remember.

Head Trip Superstar Release “Love You To Death” Single/Video

Southern California based Head Trip Superstar have released a video for their new single “LOve You To Death”. The video depicts the convoluted perceptions between men and women, when it comes to love, through a fairytale-esque daydream sequence.

“Love You To Death” capsulizes the vast emotions and adrenalized hormones associated with first falling in love yet, at the same time, reminds us that it can take a toxic turn toward self realization. Bringing this metaphorical vision to life is vocalist/guitarist Rich Varville, Jason Cooper on lead guitar, James Raub on drums, and Paule Joubran on bass.

“Love You To Death” is available for purchase at Amazon.com and CDBaby.com

Kickin Valentina Unleash “Get Ready” Video

Kickin Valentina have released a video for the song “Get Ready”, from the Atlanta band’s current self-titled EP.

“No words could describe how much potential Kickin Valentina display on this EP,” said Sleaze Roxx. “The Europeans may have a stranglehold on the cantankerous sleaze genre, but Kickin Valentina give us all hope that the scene is capable of surviving, and even thriving, in America. After hearing these five songs expectations will be extremely high for the band’s next collection of tunes.”

Kickin Valentina was formed in the summer of 2012 by guitarist Heber Pampillon and drummer Jimmy Berdine. After meeting vocalist Joe Edwards (whose distinctive style has been described as a “diamond in the dirt”), they began writing and rehearsing, then in early 2013 recruited bassist Chris Taylor to round out the line-up. Within a few months they recorded and released their self-titled debut EP on Highway 9 Records, available for purchase at kickinvalentina.com

Crank County Daredevils Singer Forms The Damned Angels

Crank County Daredevils singer Scotty P has returned with a new band called The Damned Angels, and has teamed up with Sleaze Roxx to preview the track “We Like It Loud”.

The Tennessee based band plan on releasing a series of EPs through Rusty Knuckles Records throughout 2014, with the first six song EP slated for June — details on the upcoming releases will be available at www.facebook.com/thedamnedangels

“The Damned Angels came together through me and long time friend Adam Matthews,” Scotty P tells Sleaze Roxx. “He is a bass player that has played in many bands through the years (Luxury Pushers and Pick Up The Snake to name a few) and we always talked about putting together something — but until now never could find the time. During my time with Crank County Daredevils me and Adam had a punk cover band called the Beggin’ Fiends that was strictly for shits ‘n’ giggles and free booze ‘n’ toot while I was home between tours. When, recently, the final ‘touring’ blow was handed to me via the Crank County camp I decided the time had come to try and start something new with songs that I had been working on. That’s when I saw that my bud Adam had just quit Pick Up The Snake and had a band, but was auditioning singers. I went to Knoxville, TN, met up with them and laid down demos to six songs that weekend — things went pretty fast from that. Actually, they never said I got the gig, so hopefully I’m still in!”

“We are releasing a series of EP’s on Rusty Knuckles Records this year,” continues the singer. “With CD sales down we wanted to offer a little more candy. So the first 6 song EP will be out in June, the second EP is gonna be an acoustic taste, and then a heavier EP to cap off the year. We currently have 26 songs we are weeding through. We are just wanting to set the stage for a full-length with the different vibes we would like to achieve. All the recordings are being done by Rory Kelly, guitarist on Crank County Daredevils’ last album. I truly feel The Damned Angels are closer to the ‘southern sleaze’ sounds/look than Crank County — borrowing from bands such as Hanoi Rocks, Rock City Angels, Mother Love Bone, etc. I love the Crank County Daredevils, but like I said, that monster is more cage fighter!”

Scotty P explains how The Damned Angels differ from the Crank County Daredevils, “The sounds differ by the heaviness. I feel Crank County is more of a ‘metal’ feel, even though I’m more influenced by punk styles. The Damned Angels songs were written and demoed acoustically first and then transferred to electric. They have more blues swagger and are 90% more personal ones I put together but never gave to Crank County because it was more of a party band. I tried to bring the intensity through my voice — very raw, but not as screaming as Crank County.”

As for the Crank County Daredevils, whose last album came out in 2009, Scotty P says the band isn’t exactly dead yet. “We recorded five songs last summer and plan to just release them as singles for now. There are still talks about another album with original guitarist Adam Stevens and Rory Kelly working together, but as of now its just talk. Everyone is on good terms (finally) but time has seemed to be hard to make for each other. I truly believe that seven plus years of constant touring with no real success killed us. We lived like drug rattled gypsies out of a van for far too long — not the first band that has, and hopefully not the last! But when we started talking about recording the conservation of touring came up and no one except me and Rory were willing to tour — that was a deal breaker for me. And after three years of trying to beat a dead horse I decided it was time to start over. I feel at home again, I feel hungry again, I smell the diesel burning, and my ears are ringing.”

Bach managed to involve in the writing and recording some very special friends and guest stars, including none other than Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), and not one but two top-class guitar players: John 5 and Steve Stevens (BIlly Idol). Rounding out the line-up on the CD are Devin Bronson on guitar and Bobby Jarzombek on drums.

“We have captured some kick-ass rock and roll magic and producer par excellence Bob Marlette is the wizard behind the board,” said Bach about the new album. “It is such an awesome feeling to be able to say to the planet if you like the music I have put out before, I can guarantee you will dig this one! I cannot stop listening to it and that is the whole intention. For those of you who dig my high crazy-ass screams of the other records, well, I am proud to say this new disc features all the ranges and textures I have been known for, clean soaring melodic ballads and blood-curdling death screams from hell.”

Spiders & Snakes To Release Ninth Studio Album At April 11th Benefit In Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA – Hollywood rockers Spiders & Snakes be releasing their 9th studio album worldwide on May 27th on the Sansei Records label. Entitled Year of the Snake, the album features guest appearances by Billy Sherwood (Yes, Circa), Angelo Moore (Fishbone),Rik Fox (Wasp, Steeler), Ryo Okumoto (Phil Collins, Aretha Franklin, Spock’s Beard), Betsy Weiss (Bitch) amongst others.
Year of The Snake is the first Spiders & Snakes studio album release since 2008’s Melodrama on the Corporate Punishment label (distributed by E1 Entertainment) and features all four band members sharing lead vocal and song-writing duties. The multiple lead vocalists lends the disc a depth that separates it stylistically from previous efforts, which mainly featured Spiders & Snakes co-founder Lizzie Grey on lead vocals. The new album was recorded in the Chinese calendar “Year of The Snake” (2013-2014) at Steady Studios in Burbank, California with engineer Gavin Ross at the helm – just short of the band’s upcoming 25 year anniversary.

Founded in 1990 from the ashes of Grey’s previous outfit – the notorious London, which famously spawned the careers of Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue), Izzy Stradlin, Stephen Adler, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Blackie Lawless (W.A.S.P.), Fred Coury (Cinderella) and Nigel Benjamin (Mott The Hoople) – Spiders & Snakes immediately made their presence felt in their hometown of Hollywood by selling out venues on the Sunset Strip and the west coast with their Sweet meets T. Rex meets Mott The Hoople musical influences and over-the-top stage shows with special effects, costumes and scantily-clad female dancers.
Spiders & Snakes’ 1991 debut EP Arachnomania (released thru Red/Sony Distribution) charted in Japan and the U.K. on the import charts and the band never stopped, releasing Arachno II (1992), 2000 Retro (1993), Oddities: The Glitter Years (1995), Astro Pop (1997), London Daze (2000), Hollywood Ghosts (2005) and Melodrama (2008). During the rollercoaster ride of record deals that saw their catalog released by such labels as Rkd/RED, Rafr/Flipside, Cleopatra Records and Corporal Punishment Records- the band continued to tour and release music videos (two which aired on MTV in the 90s) and appear in B Films like ‘Vamps in the City” (MVD) and documentary films like ‘Hollywood Rocks’ (Cleopatra Films). Most recently, Spiders & Snakes have been featured in the opening segment of the hit reality show “Ex-Wives of Rock” (Fuse TV).
Says Lizzie Grey – who co-founded the band with drummer and vocalist Tim Yasui – “we’re simply not has-beens since we never officially became mainstream”. Continues Grey “I realized that if you stick around long enough you eventually become somewhat relevant again”
“Year of The Snake” will be released on Digital Download, CD and Vinyl formats and a 25th Anniversary tour is in the works. Spiders & Snakes will be appearing live at Paladinos, 6101 Reseda Blvd., Tarzana, CA on Friday, April 11th, 2014 for the annual “Rockers Against Trafficking” benefit featuring performances by Helmet, Dave Lombardo of Slayer, Robert DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots and members of W.A.S.P., Quiet Riot and many more.

Duff McKagan to Rejoin Guns N’ Roses for Five Shows

Current Guns N’ Roses bassist Tommy Stinson has confirmed that founding member Duff McKagan will rejoin the band for a five-show tour of South America that begins this weekend.

Stinson, who needs the days off in order to reunite for a series of festival dates in North America with his former band, the Replacements, tells Billboard that McKagan is simply being a “good buddy” by filling in for him. The first show will be Sunday night April 6 in Buenos Aires, and the last on April 17 in Fortaleza, Brazil.

“I had those Replacement shows come up the same time the (South American) tour came up, and it got to be a scheduling issue right out of the gate… luckily someone was able to reach out to Duff and he was amenable to the idea and was into doing it. It’s Duff being the kind of good sport he is, trying to help Axl (Rose) out.”

McKagan, who played his last show as a full-time member of Guns N’ Roses back in July of 1993, has rejoined his former band on stage before, including a visit at the London’s 02 Arena in 2010 and at Seattle’s Key Arena back in December of 2011.

Gwar Frontyman Dave ‘Oderus Urungus’ Brockie Dead At 50

dave brockie

GWAR frontman Dave ‘Oderus Urungus’ Brockie very sadly died last night, March 23rd 2014.

No cause of death has been reported as yet, but a member of the Richmond Police Department reportedly claims that Brockie, 50, was found dead sometime between 3.00pm and 7.00pm on March 23rd.

“Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I’ve known,” former GWAR bassist Mike Bishop says. “He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art.”

Bishop continues: “His penchant for scatological humors belied a lucid wit. He was a criminally underrated lyricist and hard rock vocalist, one of the best, ever! A great front man, a great painter, writer, he was also a hell of a bass guitarist. I loved him. He was capable of great empathy and had a real sense of justice.”

Lamb Of God vocalist and fellow Richmond native Randy Blythe also confirmed Brockie’s passing in a heartfelt Instagram post:

“I got a very sad call tonight from my buddy Chris Bopst, who was one of the original members of GWAR- my friend Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus, the singer of GWAR, has left the building & taken off back to his home planet. He was 50 years old. I do not know details of why he died yet, just that he passed away at home & his roommates found him.

“When someone dies, a lot of the time people will say ‘Oh, he was a unique person, really one of a kind, a true original’- most of these people no idea of what they are talking about- they obviously had never met Dave. Dave TRULY WAS ONE OF A KIND- I can’t think of ANYONE even remotely like him. That’s VERY HARD TO SAY.

“My band learned how to become a real touring band from GWAR- they gave us out first shot at this thing. I learned many things from Dave, many of which I am eternally grateful for, and some of which I am deeply ashamed of. I took this picture at his birthday party a few months ago- Dave kissing his Oderous birthday cake.

“Right now, if I were to truly honor Dave in the way HE would do it if it were ME that had died, I would make a completely tasteless joke about his death. But I do not have the stomach for that- Dave would, but not me. He never put much stock in ‘limits’.

“Richmond, VA has lost one of its most creative people. This is a crying shame to me. Thank you Brockie, for all the crazy shit you did- thank God you existed, so you could do it and I didn’t have to. It was an honor to know you, to be your Shaky Slave, to serve in the Blood Vomits along side you (let’s ride!), and to be soaked by your sweet cuttlefish. RIP Dave Brockie. Oderous, enjoy your trip back home.
