Down & Dirty Searching For New Vocalist

After three albums, singer Stevie Ray Del Real (Majyk) and Down & Dirty are parting ways. Despite the split, the band will remain intact to play gigs already booked this summer while they begin the seach for a new frontman.

“With feelings of grief, and clarity, I would like to announce my departure from the band Down & Dirty,” said Del Real in a recent statement. “These past five plus years have been a dream, and I do not regret a thing. I love this band with all my heart — Joey, Ryan, and L.A. will always be part of my life. I want to make it clear that they are in no way my reason for leaving; I just believe it is time for me to expand my horizons and explore other avenues of my musical career.”

“I will continue working with the band for the next few months and giving it all I’ve got until the end of the summer,” the singer continues. “The shows we have booked, and will continue to book throughout the summer, will be in place and give me the opportunity to see you all out there again. At the same time I will be working with the guys to help find for the perfect person to fill my spot. I wish this band all the luck in the world in everything they do. I want to thank each one of them as well as our amazing manager Gaetano for everything we have accomplished together. I love you guys; you are my brothers, and my friends. I will always be a supporter. Above all, I want to thank all of you, the fans. You are the ones that came to every show you could, rocked out hard, and made me feel so loved. You are the reason we do what we do and you have helped mold what I have become. Thank you for the best years of my life thus far. I hope you all will continue to give Down & Dirty your love and support after my departure.”

“Although we are very sad to hear of this decision, it is one that he has respectfully discussed with us and that we support him in 100%,” said the remaining members of Down & Dirty. “Each artist, musician, and dreamer must find their own path; something each of us is always working towards. However, sometimes paths go separate ways, this is understood and accepted, we hope the fans will support his decision as well. We are grateful that Stevie has stated that he will continue to work with us through the summer, as well as help us to find the next addition to our team. This is an area where friends and fans can help as well. As we start the search for another member please let us know if you know someone whom you feel may be the perfect fit, often it has been through friends of the band where the best connections are made. As for now, the shows that are already booked throughout the summer will go on as scheduled. Down & Dirty is dedicated to their fans and will always come through to rock the house! For now let us say again — we support Stevie in his decision and wish him luck in all future endeavors.”

The Illinois based band are now seeking a strong frontman to help take them to the next level. They are searching for a dedicated and serious vocalist who shares in the vision of success that Down & Dirty has established, is between the ages of 18 and 25, has a strong vocal style and capabilities (someone who can perform the three CD’s worth of music already recorded and bring their own style and flare to what lies ahead), and has a positive attitude and style who knows how to handle a crowd as a ‘rock ‘n’ roll master of ceremonies’. The successful candidate must be able to travel, have a form of transportation, and live in the Joliet, Illinois, area or be willing to relocate. Any interested musicians can contact the band at www.facebook.com/downndirtychicago or send an email to gm7gm@yahoo.com.

Down & Dirty released their debut album ‘Live Fast’ in 2009, followed by ‘Taste Of Rock & Roll’ and last year’s ‘Down To The Wire’. Regarding their latest release Sleaze Roxx said, “While Down & Dirty have stayed true to their hair metal roots they decided to take a few chances on this release that probably was out of their comfort zone just a couple years ago.

White Lion’s Mike Tramp Releases First Single From Upcoming ‘Museum’

A little over a year ago Mike Tramp released the semi-acoustic ‘Cobblestone Street’, an album that showed the frontman in a more singer-songwriter and roots-based angle than his earlier work. Now the former member of million-selling hard rockers White Lion is back with a new solo album entitled ‘Museum’.

On August 16th Mike Tramp will release ‘Museum’ through Target Records, an album that makes a natural progression while still staying true to the songwriting style of ‘Cobblestone street’ — but with a pronounced focus centered around a fuller sound and a greater variety. ‘Museum’ was produced by Soren Andersen and recorded and mixed at Medley Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“It’s been two years since I recorded ‘Cobblestone street’, and a year and a bit more since it was released,” says Tramp. “Now it becomes my previous album as we are getting ready for ‘Museum’ soon. So without any further delay, here is the first single “Trust In yourself”. Video directed by my son Dylan Tramp, thanks blue, dad loves you.”

‘Museum’ track listing:
01. Trust In Yourself
02. New World Coming
03. Down South
04. Better
05. Freedom
06. Commitment
07. And You Were Gone
08. Slave

McQueen Street Singer Derek Welsh In A Coma After Fall

McQueen Street frontman Derek Welsh is in a coma after falling and hitting his head on a tennis court.

“It’s not a good day for any of our friends and fans,” says McQueen Street bassist Richard Hatcher. “He is not doing very good at all. Anyone that knows us, we were all like family at one time. I joined the band in 1989 as Klass and then we changed it to McQueen Street. We toured together for five years. Derek and I then started the Rat Race. I loved every minute of playing music with him. We parted ways in not so good terms, but I still consider him as a true friend. I wish I could have changed things but that is the past. Now he and his family need our prayers. He is in the ICU unit in UT Knoxville, Tennessee.”

McQueen Street released their self-titled debut album in 1992, featuring the single/videos “Money” and “My Religion”, appearances by Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens and singer Jeff Scott Soto, and was produced by Tom Werman (best known for his work with Motley Crue, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, Dokken, Twisted Sister, Poison, and L.A. Guns). A second album was recorded but wasn’t made available until 2003, when Welsh reaquired the rights and released it independently as ‘McQueen Street 2’.

Devin Johnson, owner of B&D Custom Guitars in Alabama, posted details of Welsh’s accident. “While playing tennis he fell and hit his head on the ground. He has massive swelling to the brain and is currently in a medically induced coma. This is a very bad situation for him and friends and family. He’s achieved a lot musically in his lifetime… only hoping he will recover so he can rock us as only Derek could do. My heart’s deeply saddened by the news of my friend, he’s been an important advocate in the rise of B&D. He’s supported and promoted it since its conception and has done so for that last 5 years, and he’s rocked the country for many years.”

Gotthard’s ‘Bang!’ Gets North American Release With Bonus Tracks

Swiss-based quintet Gotthard are thrilled to unleash their latest studio album ‘Bang!’ in North America via The End Records. On June 24th the band will release the digital version of ‘Bang!’, with a deluxe version containing three bonus tracks scheduled for release on August 12th.

For over 20 years Gotthard has toured the globe throughout Europe, North and South America and Asia in support of 14 studio and live albums, and has collected multiple gold and platinum awards along the way. Recorded at the group’s own Yellow House Studios in Lugano in the Swiss canton of Tessin, ‘Bang!’ was mixed at the Dutch Wisseloord Studios (Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner) by Ronald Prent (The Scorpions, Def Leppard, Within Temptation).

For the members of Gotthard — Nic Maeder (vocals), Leo Leoni (guitar), Marc Lynn (bass), Hena Habegger (drums) and Freddy Scherer (guitar) — the dynamic boogie groove of the title track is also new ground for the band, reflecting their unbridled energy and pure confidence. For Maeder, ‘Bang!’ is not only his second album with Gotthard but also the convincing proof that he belongs in the band, that he has become one of them, and that his voice and his qualities as a songwriter are indispensable.

“Bang!”, the first single off the album, truly represents the Gotthard sound and evolution. Catchy hooks, wailing guitars and Maeder’s lush vocals grab your ear, making “Bang!” a song you will never forget. These songs are set against a background of classic Gotthard rock tunes like “Get Up ‘N’ Move On”, “Jump The Gun” and “My Belief”, which traditionally grace every album by the Swiss combo. All told, ‘Bang!’ presents a compelling mix that is sure to take its rightful place in the proud legend of Gotthard.

“You can’t really compare different albums, but if one record comes closest in sound, it is probably ‘Lipservice’ (2005), except there’s more of a playful feel to ‘Bang!’ and the arrangements spring one or two surprises,” says Habegger.

‘Bang! track listing:
01. Let Me In Katie
02. Bang!
03. Get Up ‘N’ Move On
04. Feel What I Feel
05. C’est La Vie
06. Jump The Gun
07. Spread Your Wings
08. I Won’t Look Down
09. My Belief
10. Maybe (Duet Version)
11. Red On A Sleeve
12. What You Get
13. Mr. Ticket Man
14. Thank You
US Bonus Tracks:
15. I Want It All
16. You Can’t Stop Me
17. My Daddy Told Me

Tesla Debut “So Divine” Music Video

Tesla have released a video for their new single “So Divine”, from their recently released studio album ‘Simplicity’, which has sold over 12,000 copies in its frst week.

After a string of shows in the USA in 2013, the band went back into the studio in early 2014 and came out with a new album, which goes straight back to the Tesla roots. The band worked and produced it as they did with ‘Into The Now’, their successful comeback album from 2004. Helped by legendary producer Tom Zutaut, who was the man behind the best Tesla albums, and mixer Michael Wagener, this new album rocks from start to finish, showing a variety of emotions where each song has its own twist — not sounding like another.

‘Simplicity’ is Tesla’s seventh all original studio album which follows a six year creative break from the release of the previous album ‘Forever More’.

Guitarist Frank Hannon said about ‘Simplicity’, “I must say that this new Tesla album is really gonna be awesome. We went in more prepared with the songs and ideas, way more than Forever More, and the style is pure Tesla back to our roots. I truly believe you guys are gonna love it!”

“The opening track is called MP3”, continues Hannon, “and starts off with an opus intro that orchestrates into a heavy slow groove with lyrics about technology and how we miss simplicity, vinyl albums, family values… and has a heavy ass riff! Then we segue into a rock ‘n’ roll song called Ricochet that talks about Uncle Ted… can’t wait to play this stuff live!”

‘Simplicity’, in the Frontiers version released across Europe, will include the following songs: MP3; Ricochet; Rise and Fall; So Divine…; Cross My Heart; Honestly; Flip Side!; Other than Me; Break of Dawn; Burnout to Fade; Life is a River; Sympathy; Time Bomb; ‘Til that Day; Burnout to Fade (writing demo version)

Kix Push Long Awaited Studio Album ‘Rock Your Face Off’ To August

For Kix, not recording any new music for two decades has been far too long. Fans have made it known for years that they want new music, and now the time has finally come. The Maryland band is primed and ready to ‘Rock Your Face Off’ with their seventh studio album set for release August 5th on Loud & Proud Records.

It’s everything fans know and love them for: a raucous, roaring and real display of rock ‘n’ roll. The first single, “Love Me With Your Top Down”, will be released to radio and online retail outlets later this month. Eddie Trunk will exclusively world premiere the song during his “Friday Night Rocks” radio show originating from Q104.3 (heard in New York City, Long Island, NJ and CT) this Friday, June 20th from 11pm-2am ET. It will then air via his numerous North American syndicated affiliates on Saturday, June 20th and he’ll play it on Monday, June 23th during his “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” show that airs on SiriusXM’s Hair Nation channel (39) at 3pm PT/6pm ET.

As guitarist Brian “Damage” Forsythe explains, “When we first played ‘Love Me With Your Top Down’ live just a few months ago, it went over like gangbusters with the fans. It’s a catchy little tune with classic Kix flavor, a perfect choice for the first taste of the record.” What makes the new album even more exciting and anticipated is that it features most of the band’s original line-up: Steve Whiteman (vocals), Brian “Damage” Forsythe (guitar), Ronnie “10/10” Younkins (guitar), Jimmy “Chocolate” Chalfant (drums), with the exception of Mark Schenker (bass).

With ‘Rock Your Face Off’, Kix stirs up their truest statement to date in 2014. “It’s still hot women, fast cars, and great moments,” says singer Steve Whiteman. “I want everybody to end up on their feet, whether they’re working out or stuck in rush hour traffic. This is a release, something to lift your spirits when you need it. You can party to this one.”

Kix gracefully eased back into the public consciousness in 2008. After sold out hometown gigs, the quintet hit the stage at Rocklahoma in front of over 20,000 people, venturing out of the Mid-Atlantic for the first time in 13 years. The band was hailed by many music websites and attendees as “Best Performance” at the festival, where they played alongside Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Tesla, Queesryche, Ratt, and more. After capturing their fiery reunion on 2012’s ‘Live In Baltimore’ CD and DVD, the band agreed to enter the studio once again.

“In many ways, this is for the Kix diehards as much as it is for us,” guitarist Brian Forsythe explains. “When we started doing this again, tons of fans came out of the woodwork. They’d show up with their kids, and it was just incredible to see. We had to deliver for them.”

In order to deliver, the band enlisted the talents of producer Taylor Rhodes (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne), with whom they had last collaborated on 1991’s ‘Hot Wire’. Also, for the first time in the group’s history, each member contributed to the writing process, fostering an extremely creative and free environment in the studio. A new dawn commenced as they simultaneously harnessed their classic spirit.

“It was more free-flowing because everybody got to write and come up with ideas,” concludes Whiteman. “We encouraged this new freedom within the creative process.”

‘Rock Your Face Off’ track listing:
01. Wheels In Motion
02. You’re Gone
03. Can’t Stop The Show
04. Rollin’ In Honey
05. Rock Your Face Off
06. All The Right Things
07. Dirty Girls

ADRENALIN RUSH RELEASE THEIR SELF TITLED DEBUT ON FRONTIERS IN AUGUST:
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of the anticipated Adrenaline Rush self-titled debut album on August 22nd in Europe and August 26th in North America.
Fronted by the gorgeous and talented Tеve Wanning (formerly part of the platinum selling Teen-Pop duo Peaches), Adrenaline Rush promises to fire up the international rock scene with their lethal dose of heavy guitars, infectious hooks and full blown R n’ R attitude! The musicians completing the line-up were hand-picked from bands around Stockholm, all having different backgrounds and each of them an important piece of the puzzle.

The debut album was recorded and written under the direction of producer Erik Mеrtensson (Eclipse, W.E.T) and features 11 energetic, live-oriented tracks with strong melodies and powerful riffs. The modern production keeps the spirit of the 1980ґs alive and should appeal to fans of bands like Danger Danger, Vixen, Dokken, Warrant, Treat and Crazy Lixx.
“We want to entertain and be the soundtrack of the party – it’s all about foot-stomping, head-banging tracks that make you want to get up and dance and drive your car much too fast. My favorite track other than the single Change is Playin’ to Win, it always gets me in a good mood. Making this record with Erik was a wild ride and I hope you will ENJOY THE RUSH!” – Tеve.

Frontiers launched Adrenaline Rush with the digital release of the first single “Change” in late April. The track can be downloaded via this link from iTunes www.smarturl.it/adrenalinesingleit or listened to via streaming services like Spotify or Deezer.
The single was followed by an EPK that can be seen at youtu.be/AnMPo1zATlE.

The band then went on to play the Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan where their dynamic performance left a lasting impression on the attending rockers. Everything is now finally in place for the release of the album and the band is ready to take the show on the road with this killer new release!

“Adrenaline Rush” track list: Black n’ Blue; Change; Generation Left Behind; Girls Gone Wild; When We’re Gone; Want it All; Too Young to Die; Oh Yeah!; No No No; Playin’ to Win; Hit You Like a Rock.

STEVE PERRY MAKES IT TO THE STAGE FOR THE THIRD TIME:
Steve Perry joins The Eels again, this time in LA for 5 songs: It’s A Motherfucker, Only 16, Lights, Open Arms and Loving Touching Squeezing!

From The Hollywood Reporter (www.hollywoodreporter.com) – Journey’s Steve Perry Joins Eels Onstage at Orpheum: ‘The 20-Year Hermit Thing is Overrated’
6/12/2014 by Tim Appelo
Journey’s Steve Perry joins Eels to continue his comeback tour at L.A.’s Orpheum Theater.

After Eels’ triumphant performance at L.A.’s Orpheum Theater last night concluded with a five-song encore, including Nilsson’s “Turn on Your Radio,” the band was joined by Journey’s legendary one-time lead vocalist Steve Perry, who has joined them on several dates of their current tour after decades of avoiding the stage.
“The interesting thing about this guy is, he walked away from it all 20 years ago,” observed Eels leader Mark Oliver “E” Everett, addressing the crowd from the stage, “and then in Minneapolis, he came back to sing with us. Then he walked away again, and six days later in Washington, D.C., he came back again. And then he walked away again. Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time anywhere in 12 days — and the first time in L.A. in 20 years — please welcome Steve Perry!”

“It’s been so goddamn long,” said Perry to the audience. “I gotta thank the Eels for inviting me out here — the best band that any singer could want. I met E because of a friend of mine, Patty [Jenkins, director of Monster]. She burnt me a CD of Daisies of the Galaxy, and I told Patty, ‘Someday I want to sing that song.'” Then Perry and Eels performed the Eels tune, “It’s a Motherf—er.”
“Steve motherf—in’ Perry! He IS a motherf—er,” exulted E, who then joined Perry in a superb rendition of Sam Cooke’s “Only 16,” which morphed into a bit of Journey’s “Open Arms.”
“Steve, what about trying one you haven’t done in a long time?” asked E. “You did that one 11 days ago.”

“How about this one?” said Perry. “I wrote this one in LA, then I joined this band called Journey, moved to San Francisco, and we finished it up ithere, and changed ‘L.A.’ to ‘the Bay.'” Dancing like a man at least 20 years younger than his 65 years, Perry rocked out on “Lights (When the Lights Go Down in the City),” nimbly leaping over the microphone cords perilously snaked around the stage, turning his back on the audience to groove with Eels drummer Knuckles (Derek Brown), then facing the audience to hit the high trills flawlessly, yet with a new rasp in his voice sounding just a bit like E himself.
“The ‘cit-ee’ is L.A.!” shouted E.

“Here’s another,” said Perry. “I was 18, working as an assistant engineer in a music studio… I’m out of breath! I guess I haven’t done this enough lately to get in shape. Anyway, I was 18, and this girl pulls up in a Corvette with a guy, and they were mackin’ it up — tongue and shit! She denied it. So I wrote a song about it, and it went like this.” Perry then launched into “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’,” putting his hand to his ear to make the audience sing along (rather well) with the “na na na na” chorus. When he hit the high notes, he sounded like Minnie Riperton on testosterone.
At a party after the show, Knuckles said, “We’ve been bugging him to perform for years. He came to our rehearsals, we’d play a Journey song, and he’d say, ‘Oh, guys, I’m not gonna do that.’ He’s a sweet guy we’re happy to play with, not just because he’s Steve Perry, but also ’cause he’s a buddy.”
“He does ‘It’s a Motherf—er’ completely different,” said E. “When I sing it without him, I feel like I’m just like basically talking.”

“Listen, I’ve done the 20-year hermit thing, and it’s overrated,” said Perry. “Why now? It’s a long story, but it has to do with a lot of changes in my life, including losing my girlfriend a year ago, and her wish to hear me sing again.” Writer Joel Stein, who plays croquet with Perry and Eels, said, “I know she had cancer.” Jon Hamm, a friend of Eels, said, “You’ve got to remember, Steve’s in his 60s — it’s a pretty impressive performance. It was really nice to hear that voice again.”
“When he sang ‘Only 16,’ the hairs stood up on my head,” said Eels guitarist and trumpet player P-Boo (Mike Sawitzke). “He sounds better with a rasp, more mature and grown-up.”
But all members of Eels’ croquet circle urge the public to stop believing in Perry as a croquet player. “He was bad,” said Stein. “His croquet nickname was ‘Hacksaw’ or ‘Chainsaw.'”
As an Eels singer, however, Perry shows distinct promise. “I passed the audition!” he said.

UNRULY CHILD – NEW ALBUM UPDATE:
An update on the pending new material from Unruly Child: “Guy Allison here. As is the case in many artistic endeavors, we have scheduling conflicts that have set us behind our own self-imposed schedule. My touring schedule with the Doobies and Bruce’s business schedule with his other creative ventures are usually aligned and easy to work within. However, this last month, Bruce has come down with what appears to be the very same cold/flu that laid me out in April. It’s a bad one!
When you’re sick, it just sucks to work. So, during this time when we could be finishing up our last bit of recording before my next leg, we’ve had to postpone our studio time together.
Marcie has also had a family emergency that has taken her attention (understandably) temporarily away from the UC project as well.
We are very eager to finish up these last three tracks, but in keeping with our normal high standards, we have decided to push forward upon my return at the end of June. We completely appreciate everyone’s support and patience.
We’re very close. And we want it to be right!
Thanks, G. ~ Unruly Child.

BOMBAY BLACK ADD NEW DRUMMER:
Attention Bombay Black fans – today we would like to announce that we are saying good-bye to our “Beast”. Original drummer Rob McCauley is retiring from life on the road with Bombay Black. With his oldest son making quite a name for himself on the national BMX race circuit, along with running his many business ventures, he has decided to concentrate his efforts toward his family. As much as we will miss him, Rob races BMX as well so we still get to watch him kick some ass – but now on the track instead of the stage.
We wish him the best and hope that you will all take the time to do the same. Don’t be surprised to see Rob hanging out with the band at the occasional tour stop. (He still knows how to parallel park that tour bus better than any of our regular pack of drivers.)
As you can imagine, finding a replacement was not easy. Enter Barry Whaley. With over twenty years’ experience swinging sticks Barry has played on over 2 dozen different projects as a studio musician and has toured with several bands including Burning Cold, Lost And Labeled and Freakshow. Welcome Barry to the Bombay Black family and come meet him on tour this summer. Things are really starting to heat up in the Bombay Black camp, the new album Walk Of Shame will be going on pre-sale Monday June 23rd. Stay tuned for a look at the album artwork and the first song to be released soon!

THE LAST UPDATE:
Today marks the LAST time the website will be updated in its current form. It’s hard to believe I’m actually at this point, but here we are finally. Monday will see the brand new MelodicRock.com unveiled hopefully without a glitch! The new site represents a new way of doing things, but once you find familiarity with it, I’m sure all will agree that the powers of social media integration and the ability to log, search and archive every post, review, artist and more will prove an invaluable resource. Not to mention the ability to comment and share each post.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their loyalty to MelodicRock.com as a source of discovery for this great music we all love.

The current MelodicRock.com site will remain online forever and linked from the new site, but gradually I will move all 16 years’ worth of reviews and interviews to the new site for search and archive purposes. No more losing old reviews or searching high and low for them!

Onwards and upwards we go….tune in Monday for something different 🙂

STATE OF SALAZAR GOING ALL THE WAY WITH THE RELEASE OF THEIR DEBUT ALBUM:
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of Swedish melodic rockers State Of Salazar debut album entitled All the Way on August 22 in Europe and August 26 in North America.

State Of Salazar came to the attention of Frontiers A&R dept after the release of their debut EP ”Lost my Way” in the summer of 2012. Reviews spread fast in magazines and blogs and created a flood of praise from all over the world during a very short period: “This is something that can grow really big.” “…State Of Salazar will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the genre.” “…this EP is an extremely polished piece of art…” “The performances and the production are superb…”

With bands such as Toto, Queen, Journey, Survivor and especially Bill Conti and Vince DiCola (Rocky IV’s Training Montage writer and performer) in their influences list, STATE OF SALAZAR have indeed a lot to prove. They handle all this pressure with their heads held high since it is a quintet with great musicians! All members – Marcus Nygren, vocals, Johan Thuresson, guitars, Johannes Hansson, bass, Kristian Brun, drums and Stefan Mеrtenson, keyboards – have extensive live and studio experience. In other words, these guys know what they are doing and they already showed it to the unsuspecting public of the first Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan where they took the audience by surprise with their “feel good” Melodic Rock music.

“I feel that I’ve developed my songwriting a lot since the songs for the EP” says singer Marcus Nygren“However everyone of us put his own personality on the musical performances on the album and every single detail has been worked with and we sound like a band who took it All The Way!” “More than a year of hard work from everyone involved, made it possible for us to develop our sound and actually find out who we are, musically as a group” adds bassist Johannes Hansson“From epic synths, angelic choirs and guitar soundscapes to unison low E-string riffs we’ve allowed ourselves to indulge what we want the music to say without having to adapt. Believe me when I say that big things are coming in 2014”, concludes guitarist Johan Thuresson.

State Of Salazar is therefore ready to show the world that they are definitely not a retro band, or a walk down memory lane. They write songs and play music that strives forward and not backwards. Their songwriting, arranging and instrumental performance show that this is a band that wants to develop and give its contribution to the Melodic Rock genre.

MR BIG IN SEPTEMBER:
Mr. Big’s new studio album will be released in September via Frontiers Records worldwide, produced in LA by Pat Regan.

AOR and Melodic Rock News on 10/06/2014

IMPRESSIVE L.A. NEWCOMERS X-DRIVE TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM GET YOUR ROCK ON ON FRONTIERS:
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of X-Drive’s debut album entitled “Get Your Rock On” on August 22 in Europe and August 26 in North America.
X-Drive is a new band centered around guitar player Jeremy Brunner, an Oregon transplant, who – on the heels of his songwriting skills managed to put together an impressive debut with an affinity for catchy riffs, insightful lyrics and huge choruses.
Some of the best in Los Angeles have joined the ranks of X-DRIVE, including bassist James Lomenzo (White Lion, Megadeth, Black Label Society), singer Keith St. John (Burning Rain, Lynch Mob, Montrose) and to round out the project hard-hitting drummer Fred Fischerfrom Midline. Then legendary producer Andy Johns, the former Led Zeppelin engineer, was able to finish the X-DRIVE tracks just before his tragic death in 2013.

“It was such a pleasure to contribute to Jeremy’s effort! He has written and crafted an incredible homage to the style of 80’s rock, a style that I cut my teeth on back in the day,” Lomenzo said. “His love for the era and style really comes through in a surprisingly satisfying way.”
“Writing with Brunner was an absolute pleasure,” St. John said. “On the whole, the vehicle for his musical canvasses has been a breath of fresh air in directness and simplicity. I found myself patently inspired to fashion my parts for this collection of songs that was Jeremy’s own refreshing take on the ’80s.”
“Get Your Rock On” was mixed by Wyn Davis (Black Sabbath, Dio, Whitesnake, Dokken), and it took more than a year in the studio to make things just the way Brunner wanted, as the guitarist is a bit of a mastermind perfectionist. But it was definitely worth the wait! The X-DRIVE debut positively rocks from beginning to end.

Check out the official EPK here: youtu.be/LGavI-erOeI

“Get Your Rock On” will include the following tracklisting: Love’s A Bitch; Get Your Rock On; Steppin’ On The Rock; Baby Bye Bye; California; Lay Me Down; Turn The Noize Down; Beyond the Angels; Rattlesnake Eyes; Just Can’t Stay; Change of Heart; Love Breaks the Fool.

RUSH’S LEGENDARY ‘PRESTO’ ALBUM TO BE RELEASED AS HYBRID SACD:
Camarillo, CA – Rush fans rejoice! Marshall Blonstein’s Audio Fidelity will be reissuing Rush’s legendary ‘Presto’ album on limited numbered edition Hybrid SACD! Rush were never a band known to play the same sort of thing for any extended period, they often pushed the boundaries of rock and their formidable list of albums helped to bring prog to a wider audience. By 1989 a change was inevitable and with their 13th studio album, ‘Presto’, it was a change for the good. ‘Presto’ marked the beginning of a transition period, moving away from a sound dominated by synthesizers and toward more traditional rock instrumentation. The synths were toned back while the guitars were brought up to a reasonable level allowing the emphasis to return to the rhythm instruments, resurrecting the groove that Rush maintains so very well.
“A creative rebirth – producing a groove that’s positively infectious.”

Geddy Lee and Neal Peart are in good form, but Alex Lifeson is the real story, he can be heard in grand force and even pulls out the acoustic guitar. Lifeson’s leads in “Superconductor” are brilliant, Geddy Lee does great solo work on “Show Don’t Tell” and Peart’s percussion on “Scars” features a complex tribal rhythm drum pattern in which both acoustic and electronic drums are utilized – a synthesis of the two that’s accessible without compromising. Each of these tracks, along with? “The Pass,”? reached the top of the Album Rock Tracks charts with “Show Don’t Tell” hitting #1. ‘Presto’ climbed to #16 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.
Rush made a stab at greatness with ‘Presto’ and Rupert Hine’s deft production had much to do with its success.

Tracks: 1. Show Don’t Tell 2. Chain Lightning 3. The Pass 4. War Paint 5. Scars 6. Presto 7. Superconductor 8. Anagram (for Mongo) 9. Red Tide 10. Hand Over Fist 11. Available Light.
Produced by Rupert Hine Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio

GREGORY LYNN HALL MAKES SOLO DEBUT JULY 25:
AOR Heaven will release Gregory Lynn Hall’s debut solo album Heaven To Earth July 25.
Gregory Lynn Hall, Southern California solo artist and singer for 101 South has had a long history in the music industry, in all areas from studio work to live shows. Gregory started off his music career singing gospel songs on his grandma’s piano bench with his 2 other cousins, doing harmonies when he was 3 years old. As an instrumentalist Gregory started playing drums and soon moved on to guitar, then bass and keyboards, producer, etc… finding his nitch in the late 70s.
Gregory helped polish the band Rat Sally in the early 80s and pounded the Hollywood scene playing at all the rock venues, from Gazzaris to the Troubadour, The Country Club-playing many gigs with Bands like Poison, Warrant, all the 80s rockers, hanging out with the typical Hollywood Rocker crowd. After the Seattle grunge sound came and changed the whole music scene, the musician moved to the mid-west where he found many new opportunities in Nashville (the whole mid-west region). He became a well sought after session vocalist, singing on many well known Christian artist’s albums including Carman and one of the most sought after jingle, commercial vocalists in the mid-west, with many local and national Jingles under his belt.

In the late 90s the artist returned to California and found himself reuniting with Rat Sally and going in the studio to record a new EP. Following that, a reunion gig at the world famous Pelicans retreated in 1995. Gregory kept busy doing session work for the next few years. In 1999 while doing a session in Malibu, he met Roger Scott Craig and was asked to do some demos and 101 South was born. Shortly after the first 101 South album (2000) was finished, Gregory was asked to join the band Heaven And Earth (Stuart Smith, Richie Onori, Kelly Keeling), as their bass player and toured with them to support the “Windows to the World” album, culminating with an All Star filled show for the orphans of 911 in Hollywood.
Gregory has had the honor of performing on stage, and working with; Keith Emerson (ELP), Gary Richrath (REO), Howard Leese (Heart), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge), Spencer Davis, Steve Priest (Sweet), Craig Goldy (Guiffria, Dio, Budgie), Stuart Smith (Heaven and Earth, Sweet), Richie Onori (Rick Derringer, ELP, Heaven and Earth), Kelly Keeling (Blue Murder, Lynch Mob), Don Cromwell (Eddie Money, Air Supply) and many other world class musicians. Gregory has also had the pleasure of working in some of the be st studios in the world, Indigo Ranch, Malibu ca.-The Church Studio, Tulsa Ok. Gregory has also worked with Eddie Money in the studio and teamed up with Roger Scott Craig to make another 101 SOUTH album in 2002 called Roll Of The Dice that made many top 10 lists in Europe. In Oct. 2008 they finished recording their 3rd 101 South album with a couple world class guest musicians incl. Ian Bairnson (PILOT, Allan Parsons Project) and Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann, Blinded by the light).

Gregory has just finished recording a solo album entitled “Heaven To Earth” which comes along with a little harder edge than 101 South. The album was recorded in Las Vegas at “The Hall Closet Studio” and mastered by Mike Turner at “The Chicken Shack” in Chattsworth, California.

FOZZY TO RELEASE NEW FULL-LENGTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘DO YOU WANNA START A WAR’ JULY 25:
Fozzy have announced they will release their highly anticipated, new full-length studio album ‘Do You Wanna Start A War’ (Century Media Records) in Australia and New Zealand on July 25th! Fans can now pre-order the 12-track album at iTunes and receive an instant download of the song “One Crazed Anarchist.” Preview the track now and watch the new lyric video premiering exclusively at Revolver. Recently, the band unveiled a new lyric video for the debut single “Lights Go Out,” which shows the band in a stunning new light. Fozzy have just finished a U.S. run performing at festivals across the country including Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion, and Rockfest along with many other shows. Fozzy will be performing June 14 in the U.K. on the main stage of the Download Festival.
Led by the inimitable duo of guitarist Rich Ward (co-founder of the influential underground band Stuck Mojo) and vocalist Chris Jericho (famed WWE superstar and media personality), the band Fozzy has really always been about one thing: having fun. Produced by Ward ‘Do You Wanna Start A War’ is the bands follow-up to their acclaimed 2012 release ‘Sin and Bones’ and sixth studio effort since 2000. Featuring 12-tracks, the new album includes the debut single “Lights Go Out,” alongside the title track and the return of the Theremin in “Bad Tattoo.” As described by Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour, “Do You Wanna Start A War is dark, dense and sharp. Sonically and lyrically, this feels like it’s going somewhere big. I love it!”

What started out for guitarist Rich Ward as a weekend cover band, called Fozzy Osbourne, soon became an internationally signed act with the biggest star in professional wrestling, Chris Jericho, as its lead singer. With adopted stage names and an elaborate backstory written for the movies, the band’s early recordings consisted mainly of cover songs ranging from Black Sabbath and Dio, to Iron Maiden and Mцtley Crьe. Jericho’s singing ability and overall passion for music makes one wonder just how he is able to find the time to excel in pretty much everything he does, while Ward counting Zakk Wylde and Synyster Gates as fans, is probably one of the greatest, and unjustly so, underrated guitarists in rock and metal today. It was these qualities that pushed the band to drop alter egos get rid of the backstory and write original music.

Over the course of the next seven years, the band did just that; three albums worth to be exact. The records were fit in between Jericho’s wrestling, TV and writing career. It wasn’t until their last release ‘Sin and Bones’ though that the band really started to hit their stride. Jericho was winding down his involvement with sports, the band was touring more than ever before and their live show was as strong as ever sharing the stage with such music luminaries as Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Steel Panther, Shinedown, and many others. The entertainment, the fun factor, the showmanship were all there and in full force. More so than any point in the bands’ career.
By the time ‘Do You Wanna Start A War’ is released, a horde of seasoned and newfound fans will have seen Fozzy live and heard new tracks off the album. They will have witnessed one of the greatest performances they’ve ever seen, they will have witnessed one of the best frontman in any genre of music sing some of the catchiest songs they’ve heard in ages and most importantly, they will have had the best time in their lives doing it.
Fozzy is Chris Jericho on vocals, Rich Ward on guitars and vocals, Frank Fontsere on drums, Billy Grey on guitars, and Paul Di Leo on bass.

FOZZY‘Do You Wanna Start A War’ tracklisting: Do You Wanna Start A War, Bad Tattoo, Lights Go Out, Died With You, Tonite, Brides of Fire, One Crazed Anarchist, Unstoppable, Scarecrow, No Good Way, SOS, Witchery.

NEW HELLYEAH ALBUM BLOOD FOR BLOOD OUT JUNE 6:
Readying for a June 6 album release, Hellyeah – featuring Mudvayne’s Chad Gray oon vocals, Pantera’s Vinnie Paul on drums and Nothingface’s Tom Maxwell on guitar – has brought a new level of auudio fury to its new music. Having parted ways with Greg Tribbett and Bob Zilla, the band has taken on Kyle Sanders (Bloodsimple) on bass.
Blood For Blood is a welcome return to form. It leaves a mark, thanks to songs like the angular, vengeful “DMF,” a song birthed by the sort of anger that can’t be faked; it will leave you wondering who pissed these guys off. “Gift” is dirty, rowdy rock with equal parts groove and swagger, but also possessed of the sort of punk rock energy that would make Motorhead fans turns their heads. Then there is moodier, more contemplative fare like “Moth” or “Hush,” which connect on an emotional, cellular level, proving that you can be incredibly heavy in ways other than loud and fast. The album sounds like a re-charged Hellyeah, taken up many notches.
Track Listing: 1. Sangre Por Sangre (Blood For Blood) 2. Demons In The Dirt 3. Soul Killer 4. Moth 5. Cross To Bier (Cradle Of Bones) 6. DMF 7. Gift 8. Hush 9. Say When 10. Black December.

W.A.S.P. Releasing New Studio Album Next Year

W.A.S.P. will be returning with a new studio album entitled Golgotha next year, one that founder and frontman Blackie Lawless says will sound similar to 2009’s ‘Babylon’ and 2007’s ‘Dominator’.

“We’re about three weeks away from finishing the next one, so it will be out next year and it will be called Golgotha,” Lawless announced at a Sweden Rock Festival press conference. “Golgotha is Hebrew for place of the skull and it’s the hill where Christ was crucified. It’s interesting when you see a lot of bands going around using Satanic images, or images of death and things like that, and I’m thinking all they need to do is look at the source cause it’s right there. If you want death, there’s enough to go around there.

As for what fans can expect musically from ‘Golgotha’, Lawless says, “It sounds… probably more similar to the last two that we’ve done. We’ve been working on this thing for four years now, and I don’t know if you guys heard but I had a little hiccup last year, and that delayed recording for about a year. I broke my leg — that too was an interesting trip (laughs). There’s one thing I learned when I was doing The Crimson Idol. If you make a record over too long of peroids of time you have to be very, very careful because the record you start out making is not the record you end up finishing because you’ve changed so much as a person over a three or four year peroid. You’ve got to be very careful to hold onto that vison. But from what I’m hearing so far, and it’s not completely mixed yet, but it has definite overtones of the last two records.”

Lawless also addressed his decision to stop playing the W.A.S.P. classic “Animal (Fucks Like A Beast” by saying, “”I look at it like this. I’m a representative of the most high God, and I have to be very careful about the things I say and do. I’m gonna answer one day for the things that I’ve done and I wanna make sure that when I do, that my slate is clean. But equally as import as that I think, is I’ve been given an opportunity to stand in front of people and you’re either gonna say something positive or you’re gonna say something midnless –there is no in between. You’re either one or the other. And I’m just trying my best, and I’m not saying that I’m doing it all the time, but I’m trying my best to say something that I think could help somebody’s life.”

Former Britny Fox Frontman Goes Country On New Single/Video

Former Britny Fox singer Dean Davidson has left his hair metal days far behind on the new country themed song “Wouldn’t Change A Thing”, the first single from the frontman’s upcoming ‘Different Roads’ album.

The Americana/folk/country album ‘Different Roads’ is slated for release on September 1st. “Me as an artist and the stories that make up the new album ‘Different Roads’ are simply about; where each song takes you that you may have experienced in your life,” said Davidson. “I’m not in this at all to be a celebrity. I’m in this because I’m doing what I love and I’m just being me. Just one man, one guitar, sharing his story through a song.”

The new musical direction is far removed from his Britny Fox days, when ‘Dizzy’ Dean Davidson and the band landed a recording contract with Columbia Records and released two MTV hits, “Long Way To Love” and “Girlschool”, which propelled their 1988 self-titled debut album to sales approaching one million copies. Shortly after the release of ‘Boys In Heat’, Davidson left Britny Fox to form Blackeyed Susan, but was without a label deal after the grunge invasion hit in the early ’90s.

The new album title ‘Different Roads’ came about when the first original title, ‘New York City Night’, and song of the same name, were originally included on the singer’s 2007 album ‘Drive My Karma’. “The new album delivers Americana/Folk/Country that’s organic and honest,” says Davidson. “I don’t write songs aiming to be a hit song. I just tell stories through songs — period. When I write the story of my life, I don’t let anyone hold the pen. It’s not about anything flashy. It’s just honest, real and simple.”

Scorpions Drummer Seeks Alcohol Treatment After Dubai Jailing

Scorpions Drummer Seeks Alcohol Treatment After Dubai JailingScorpions drummer James Kottak is seeking treatment for alcholism after spending a month in a Duabi jail for insulting Islam earlier this year.

“After years of drinking alcohol, on April 3rd, 2014, my addiction finally caught up with me during a 5-hour flight from Ekaterinburg, Russia to Bahrain via Dubai, during which I consumed 5 or 6 glasses of wine,” says Kottak. “While at the airport in Dubai I approached an airline representative to check on the status of my flight. The representative informed me that I was in the wrong place and I replied “WTF?!.” The representative then called the police and reported that I was intoxicated (which I was) and that I made a lewd jester.”

Eye witness reports at the time of his arrest said Kottak started swearing and talking about “non-educated Muslims”, then flashed his middle finger at Pakistani passengers. Police at the time also said he exposed his behind and was asking people to touch it. A customer service employee at the airport also recalled, “When he saw the Pakistani and Afghan passengers, he covered his nose and said that there was no way he will travel with them.” He added that the drummer then started swearing repeatedly at the arrivals area of Terminal 2. “He wasn’t talking to a person specifically but was talking in general. He was very nervous at the time and talking loudly.”

“One of the police officers recognised me as drummer of ‘The Scorpions'”, Kottak disputes. “When the police asked me to show my ID, I showed them the “Rock & Roll Forever” tattoo on my back, instead of my actual ID which was in my back-pack my friend was carrying for me. Apparently, the police did not find this funny and I was charged with “Drinking Without a License”, for which I pleaded guilty and received a one-month sentence and a 2,000 Dirham (300 USD) fine. I was also charged with insulting Islam/Muslims by making a lewd jester for which I pleaded not guilty and did not actually do.”

“Upon returning to the United States on May 6th, I immediately reached out to Bob Forrest, an addiction specialist known for his work with musicians and Celebrity Rehab,” continues Kottak. “I have been meeting with Bob on a regular basis. He has guided me to the MusiCares Organization, which provides musicians with help for mental health and addiction issues. I am determined to come to grips with my alcoholism and am doing everything on a daily basis to beat this relentless disease. This entire incident caused me to realize that it is time to stop drinking once and for all so that I can become the father, musician, and friend that I know I can be.”

The 51 year old drummer is looking forward to moving on his his life. “I am glad to put this unfortunate incident behind me and move onward and upward with my life. I would like to send out a HUGE thank you to my family, friends and fans around the world for their incredible loving support… you kick ass! I would also like to send a sincere apology from the bottom of my heart to everyone I have affected and look forward to seeing you all!!”

The Angels’ Doc Neeson Loses Battle With Cancer At Age 67

Bernard “Doc” Neeson, the frontman of hitmaking Australian rock group the Angels (also known as Angel City and The Angels From Angel City), has died at the age of 67 after a battle with brain cancer, reports the Billboard.

Neeson, the former livewire lead singer of pub rock greats The Angels (also known as Angel City and The Angels From Angel City), passed away peacefully according to a statement released by his friend and publicist Catherine Swinton.

“Doc stood out as one of a kind, a totally unique performer,” said Angels lead guitarist Rick Brewster. “His feverish stage presence was unsurpassed yet beneath the public persona was a gentle soul. He leaves behind a wealth of shared memories. Good times, hard times and the thrill of creating timeless music together.”

At their peak, the Angels was the quintessential Aussie pub-rock band; a group blessed with an arsenal of explosive songs and — with Neeson at the mic — one of the most charismatic singers in the rock business.

Born January 4th, 1949 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Neeson emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia when he was 13. He went on to play with Moonshine Jug and String Band, a group that morphed into the Keystone Angels and later the Angels. His intense gaze and livewire antics at front and center of stage helped established his band as legends in their homeland.

The 1978 album ‘Face To Face’ ignited the Angels’ career, and yielded the hits “Take A Long Line” and “Marseilles”. The album was reissued on vinyl earlier this year, with Neeson remarking at the time, “I don’t think it was accidental that Face To Face was on the charts for 71 weeks while we toured every part of Australia. People checked us out live then heard that same, roaring dynamic captured on top quality analog vinyl. On great vinyl the fans could hear the full quality of sound they had experienced at an Angels concert and that excited them.”

The band’s 1976 song “Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again” is part of Australia’s rock ‘n’ roll DNA, and is a favorite at any party where beer is served (for reasons no-one can explain, Australians tend to shout-back an expletive filled lyric which doesn’t actually exist in its chorus).

The Angels were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1998. A year later, Neeson suffered a severe spinal injury

Neeson went on to perform with various acts including Doc Neeson’s Angels and Red Phoenix, and there were legal battles with his former bandmates who toured as the Angels. The band members reunited and toured, but he would again leave to pursue a solo career.

In March of this year, Neeson released the single “Walking in the Rain”, originally recorded by Flash and The Pan. It was his first studio recording in nearly seven years. The song, written by the legendary Vanda & Young team, was recorded late last year at Albert Studios in Sydney by ARIA Award winning producer Brendan Gallagher prior to Doc touring the country last November with the RocKwiz Salutes Vanda And Young shows.

Neeson was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor in 2012 and reportedly spent the Christmas and New Year period of that year in hospital undergoing intensive radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

He is said to have passed away peacefully Wednesday morning.

“He has battled with a brain tumour for the last 17 months and sadly lost his fight this morning,” a note posted on his official Facebook page reads. “He will be deeply missed by his family and partner Annie Souter who would all like to thank everyone for their support through this dark time.”

YES SET TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM ‘HEAVEN & EARTH’ JULY 22 ON FRONTIERS RECORDS:
Among the world’s most influential, ground-breaking, and respected progressive rock bands, Grammy Award winning, Yes are proud to announce they will release their new studio album, Heaven & Earth, July 22 on Frontiers Records. Having sold nearly 40 million albums in a career that has so far spanned more than four decades, Heaven & Earth sees Yes continuing with its tradition of symphonic progressive rock that remains timelessly fresh and innovative.

Heaven & Earth contains eight new tracks, each of which boasts the unique musicianship and craftsmanship that have come to be known as “the Yes sound.” Yes’ distinctive layered music, swirling arrangements, brilliant vocals and harmonies are all in abundance. Heaven & Earth is an album sure to please both long-time and new Yes fans. For Heaven & Earth, Yes teamed up with legendary Grammy Award winner, Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Cars, Guns N’ Roses, Foreigner, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice Cooper, etc.), who handled the production and Billy Sherwood (Toto, Paul Rodgers, Air Supply, etc.) who mixed the album. Also onboard is long-time Yes artist, the world-renowned Roger Dean, who again brings his masterful artistic creativity to the album’s cover art and packaging.

Tracklisting for Heaven & Earth: 1. Believe Again 2. The Game 3. Step Beyond 4. To Ascend 5. In A World Of Our Own 6. Light Of The Ages 7. It Was All We Knew 8. Subway Walls.

To coincide with the release of Heaven & Earth, the multi-platinum progressive rock band–bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist GEOFF DOWNES and singer Jon Davison–announced in March they’ll launch their 35-date summer tour featuring Yes performing, in their entirety, 1971’s groundbreaking album Fragile for the first-time ever and a repeat performance from last year’s tour of 1972’s Close To The Edge, followed by an encore of the band’s greatest hits.

The album Fragile is considered to be their U.S. breakthrough album peaking at #4 on the Billboard Album charts in the U.S. The RIAA-certified double platinum album has sold over two million copies and features Yes’ hit single “Roundabout” and other classics like “Long Distance Runaround” and “Heart of the Sunrise.” It also marks the band’s first collaboration with artist Roger Dean on cover art, who has designed many of the band’s album covers and logos. The band’s album Close To The Edge–widely regarded as one of the greatest progressive rock albums ever recorded–was on the U.S. charts for 32 weeks, peaking at #3. A Rolling Stone review noted, “Yes’ colors are subtle, almost imperceptible tints, but the main strokes are bold and thick, applied with sureness and natural instinct.” Inspired by Siddhartha and their “state of mind” at the time, the Gold-certified album featuring epic suites such as “Close To The Edge” and “You And I” was named one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time” by Guitar World (2006). R.I.P. DOC NEESON – THE ANGELS:
After an 18 month battle with cancer, Australian rock legend Doc Neeson, vocalist for The Angels (known as Angel City in North America) has passed away earlier this morning local time. The official statement reads:

“It is with deep sadness and regret that the family of Angels singer/songwriter Bernard ‘Doc’ Neeson – loving father, family member and friend to so many – announce he has passed away in his sleep at 7.15am, today, 4th June 2014. He has battled with a brain tumour for the last 17 months and sadly lost his fight this morning. He will be deeply missed by his family and partner Annie Souter who would all like to thank everyone for their support through this dark time. “We love you Dad. You couldn’t have made any of your sons more proud of you if you tried. May your beautiful soul rest in peace sweet angel, fly high.” Dzintra, Daniel, Aidan and Kieran.
“Good Night, Sweet Prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” With love forever, Annie – borrowed from William Shakespeare – Hamlet.

From: News.com.au – “Doc Neeson, the lead singer of Australian rockers The Angels, has died of brain cancer. He was 67. The singer behind hits such as Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again? was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2013. Neeson underwent surgery to remove the tumour but he confirmed it had returned in April this year, confirming it might be “life threatening”. “The news is grim, but some people can get through this, and that’s the way I try to think about things,” he told the ABC’s Australian Story. “So I’m looking forward optimistically to the future.”
Neeson said his initial reaction to the tumour had been: “shock of course”. “When somebody puts a use by date on me, but I still hung on to a shred of hope that I’d get back on the stage at some point.”
In March this year he released his first single in seven years, Walking in the Rain, after performing the song to critical acclaim on the SBS TV show Rockwiz. Neeson was born in Belfast and moved with his family to Adelaide when he was 13. The Angels started life in Adelaide as The Moonshine Jug and String Band in the early 1970s. They went on to become the Keystone Angels.
In 1975, they became simply The Angels and a year later they released their breakthrough single Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. Their other hits included Take a Long Line, Marseilles, Shadow Boxer, No Secrets, and a cover version of the Eric Burdon hit We Gotta Get Out Of This Place. Neeson’s final gig with the bad was in New Year’s Eve in 1999.

6 Ways Doc Neeson Helped Change The Face Of Australian Music

Craig Csongrady (BB Steal): “R.I.P Doc Neeson – The Voice of The Angels It’s been a great honour for all in BB Steal to have shared the stage with you over the many years. You were a true Gentleman a True Star and a Giant of the Stage. You will be very sadly missed, but never forgotten.”

JAMES KOTTACK ISSUES STATEMENT ON ARREST:
Statement from James Kottak: “After years of drinking alcohol, on April 3rd, 2014 my addiction finally caught up with me during a 5-hour flight from Ekaterinburg, Russia to Bahrain via Dubai, during which I consumed 5 or 6 glasses of wine. While at the airport in Dubai I approached an airline representative to check on status of my flight. The representative informed me that I was in the wrong place and I replied “WTF?!.” The representative then called the police and reported that I was intoxicated (which I was) and that I made a lewd jester.
One of the police officers recognised me as drummer of “The Scorpions”. When the police asked me to show my ID., I showed them the “Rock & ROLL FOREVER” tattoo on my back, instead of my actual ID. which was in my back pack my friend was carrying for me. Apparently, the police did not find this funny and I was charged with “Drinking Without a License”, for which I pleaded guilty and received a one-month sentence and a 2,000 Dirham (300 USD) fine. I was also charged with insulting Islam/Muslims by making a lewd jester for which I pleaded not guilty and did not actually do.
Upon returning to the United States on May 6th, I immediately reached out to Bob Forrest, an addiction specialist known for his work with musicians and “Celebrity Rehab”. I have been meeting with Bob on a regular basis. He has guided me to the MusiCares Organization, which provides musicians with help for mental health and addiction issues.
I am determined to come to grips with my alcoholism and am doing everything on a daily basis to beat this relentless disease. This entire incident caused me to realize that it is time to stop drinking once and for all so that I can become the father, musician, and friend that I know I can be.
I am glad to put this unfortunate incident behind me and move onward and upward with my life. I would like to send out a HUGE thank-you to my family, friends and fans around the world for their incredible loving support…you kick ass! I would also like to send a sincere apology from the bottom of my heart to everyone I have affected and look forward to seeing you all!!
With love, James Kottak – Tomorrow is a brand new day!”

TERRAPLANE DEBUT ALBUM REISSUE CELEBRATED WITH RARE DOUBLE SINGLE RELEASE:
Hear No Evil Recordings/Cherry Red are celebrating their upcoming expanded edition reissue of Terraplane’s debut 1985 album Black And White with the release of a rare double digital single: I Survive / Gimme The Money (City Records Version) on June 9.
More widely known as inimitable British hard rock heroes Thunder, Danny Bowes (vocals), Luke Morley (guitar) and Harry James (drums) formed the more pop-orientated Terraplane in the early 80s, releasing their debut single ‘I Survive’ in 1983. ‘I’m The One’ features none other than Jools Holland on organ, and ‘Couldn’t Handle The Tears’ has guest vocals from Ruby Turner. After 1987’s “Moving Target” LP, Terraplane split up, with its principle members forming the harder rocking Thunder, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thunder split in 2009, playing live only occasionally since then, but has recently decided to start work on a new album. The band will be on the bill with Aerosmith at the Calling Festival at Clapham Common on June 28.
Black And White: Expanded Edition is due for release June 16, remastered with eight bonus tracks and 16-page colour booklet including rare memorabilia and extensive liner notes by Malcolm Dome, and featuring interviews with Luke Morley and Danny Bowes.
