AD/DC To Make Major Announcement But MetalTalk Sources Say The Band Will Continue

Rumours that legendary Aussie rockers AC/DC are set to announce their retirement are keeping the newsfeeds buzzing this morning but this conflicts dramatically with Brian Johnson’s words in February when he declared that the band would be recording and touring again.

Johnno confirmed on radio station 98.7 the Gater that: “It’s been 40 years of the band’s existence. So I think we’re gonna try to do 40 gigs, 40 shows, to thank the fans for their undying loyalty.”

According to newspaper The Australian, the group has booked a six-week stint set to begin on May 1st in Vancouver to lay down music for their next album, which would be their first since 2008’s ‘Black Ice’.

However, this (Tuesday) morning a huge story broke that the band are set to split due to the ill health of one of their members.

3AW reporter Peter Ford told 2Day FM breakfast hosts Sophie Monk, Merrick Watts, Jules Lund and Mel B that: “We may never hear them perform or record again”.

Mr Ford built up the hype on Twitter on Monday night, promising his 7,000 followers he had a “world exclusive” that was the “end of an amazing era”.

“Working on major exclusive story for tomorrow that will rock the local, and world, music scene,” he tweeted, before breaking the news.

Mr Ford said “there is some quite sad detail about it all” and later tweeted that “the band/management may choose to reveal this” at a later date.

AC/DC’s management company have been contacted for comment but are yet to respond.

HOWEVER: MetalTalk have been informed that Mr Ford broke his story on the strength of an anonymous email sent to his station by a poster called ‘Thunderstruck’ and we remain very sceptical at this stage.

MetalTalk sources inform us that the likelihood is that the band will announce later today (Tuesday) that Malcolm Young will be retiring due to ill health and that the band will continue with their plans to record and tour again.

Stay posted and we’ll bring you more as soon as we have it.
